WTB: 4G63 Flywheel bolts

Hi guys. Are flywheel bolts only available through Mitsu new? or can we get them from a supplier? I finished building the 4G64 Nimbus engine tonight but need 3 flywheel bolts ASAP to finish it off (had to chisel 3 of the bitches off as not even a new 17mm Sidchrome socket, nor a Metrinch socket would get a decent grip on the bolts. Frikken stupid idea have the bolt heads so damn short that you cant get a decent grip on the suckers ).

Sorry I don't know the answer, but I do have a tip for you! Sidchrome use that double hex bullshit. Like these. If you notice a socket slip stop right away and use a regular single hex one, like these. Makes a huge difference to grip.

Did that too. Originally I used the star type sockets, even ratchet gun items. Problem is 99% of sockets out there are designed with concave mouths that you lose 2mm of grip on the head of the bolt. So in essence most of the time you're only holding onto the flywheel bolt by 1-2mm!!!

Look at the pic I've attached to see what I mean. The actual 'bite' of the socket doesnt start at the base, but in fact a couple of mm up into the socket. Not good when the flywheel bolts are only a few mm high Having a 17mm socket lathed down a couple mm would be good for the job lol

I just grabbed an old impact socket (a 6 sided one) and ground down the face by about 3mm (with a flap wheel and bench grinder) to get rid of the curve at the entry of the socket. Works perfect and is cheap and nasty like me.

Its OK guys I am grabbing some off Frank-e's spare motor this arvo but will need to give him replacements at a later date. I think the GLXi's have short 20mm bolts but the AWD's have 25-30mm bolts. I have several short ones at home so I figured they're left over from some of the FWD conversins?? lol

That sounds like the go Rob Sockets really need to grab opnto them suckers with as much bite as possible.

1.8 and 2.0 flywheel bolts are different in size and width!

Yeah I definitely still need some as Frankie only had 6 bolts. I looked in the garage at some spare flywheel bolts left over from some old engines and found 4 different lengths of bolts, and one kind had a different thread pitch.

I basically need 7 bolts in total for the Nimbus engine.... but I only have 6 x VR4 bolts and 4 x EVO I-III bolts... but not 7 of one kind and no chance in hell I'm going to mix and match on a flywheel lol

The Nimbus engine is currently hooked up to the crane after the rebuild ready to go in but I cant put the gearbox on or engine back in until I get some measly flywheel bolts

Spider, I'm in Sydney on Saturday and would be great to pick them up from you if possible. I'll be driving the F3 Freeway, Pennant Hills Rd, M2, M7 and M4 all the way to Penrith. I can deviate off those courses if you're not too far away? Basically I need 1 x VR4 bolt, or 3 x EVO I-III bolts to make a set and getting them by this weekend would be ideal as i could put the engine back in and get it running, regoed and on the black stuff. At the moment I'm driving the Mrs car around and shes pregnant and having to walk to pick up the little one from school etc

Sorry Rob, It looks like the bolts I had were sent out with the crank so unfortunately can't help out mate.

No problem mate. I just called AutoPro on the off chance that they could get them in and guess what? they can!! OEM units ex Sydney for $10 each. Thank god I only need 3!! Hopefully they come in overnight otherwise wont be in til Monday

U could try rear crown wheel bolts there the same grade and only a couple of mm longer then vr4 flywheel bolts, there also a short head type.
