so anywho, the car is having a little bit of work done to it atm, so whilst the rocker cover is off i decide the lifters may aswell get changed...

enigine is from a 93 j-spec gizzer... now to cut a real long story short i have never really had bad lifter noise, it would occassionaly tick whilst sitting at at traffic light or the only other time that it would pop up around 4500km mark and was just a friendly reminder to change the oil

upon the lifters coming out, we notice this

now its fairly obvious which ones are from the car and which ones have been purchased... (for those with poor eye-site in both pictures the lifter on the left is used, and the lifter on the right is new)

now from what i have read, the issue with these lifters is that carp use to get blocked in the lifter top-holes which caused the ticking... so how can these 3G lifters have smaller top-holes...

your thorts...?

ur old ones look a bit like 2g lifters yeh? maybe someone drilled out the original ones? but then again these pics are for 4G63 lifters, i imagine the 4G93 ones are slightly different?

My old 93 lifters looked exactly the same as what came out of tims motor though. We compared them when we pulled em out.

they are not 2g lifters,
2g lifters are shorter than the 3g and 1g lifters.

maybe the gsr's had 3g lifters in them from the factory?

want to sell your 3g lifters?? =)

have u put the new ones in.... if u r still getting lifter noises its not always the lifters... u gotta clean out the gallerys n the rocker arms...
remember u can get different brand name lifters... they dont even say if they r 1g/2g/3g...

the lifters are in yes but the car is no where near startings...

i never really had lifter noise to begin with, my lifters wernt bad...

i guess time will tell... hopefully not too much time!

oh ok... well i heard the 3g lifters r the best, n they r cheap to buy now... think $280 or something, they used to be $400+ so yeah... as long as u bleed out all the air of the new lifters u wont have any probs then.... gl with it all

yeah too right... its just the fact that these were purchased as 3G lifters... none the less i am assured that they will do the job...

My GSR (94 Aus Spec).... was exactly the same... The lifters I pulled out that were noisy looked like the 3G lifters everyone has spoken about and looked exactly the same as the lifters on the left in the pic in the first post. I then replaced them with the lifter i purchased from Meek (lifter on the right in the pic). Worked a treat... Very quiet. Will probably hang on to the lifters i removed, give them a clean and keep them as spares if I need them.
I suspected that the previous owner replaced them or whether they may have come like that from the factory considering my GSR is the second of the CC series.

im pretty sure that is all the evidence needed to concur that the factory lifters have larger top-holes than meek 3G lifters... not to say that the 3G's are worse...

the lifters in the 4G93 are the same as used in the V6 FTO and V6 Galants
so thats why it doesnt look like any of the 1G, 2G, 3G DSM ones. The lifter design stayed the same throughout all GSR models.

Since its common knowledge that alot of GSR lancers, FTOs and V6 Galants get noisy lifters its a safe bet the ones u have put in are better
