Hey Everyone,
I have a 93 EG civic sedan and I've been wanting to do this conversion for a long time, but never had the resources or knowledge to do it, and as for searching forums on countless performance sites, they're all just speculations and children guessing No REAL HARD FACTS.
IMAGINE a VR4 engine and drivetrain conversion..Both cars are similar in length. (18cm difference)
Similar in width. (5cm Difference). Custom mounts are gonna have to be Fabbed up as well I know but Im just hoping the VR4 driveshafts, Diffs etc can be used instead of fabricating those as well .
The civic already has 4 wheel discs so no need for conversion there.(Although will have to upgrade anyway) And suspension etc will come later.
There are people who have used this engine/drivetrain conversion in other cars less compatible than mine so surely it can be done.
Can SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! or point me in the diection of someone who can.
Thank you

how about the crv drivetrain? i read somewhere alot of the us guys use the awd drive train from those? i think there was an integra with one in it, which made it able to swap from awd to rwd.

I too have thought of that, There are 92 - 95 EG Civic ferio's (Exact same model as mine) that have a 4WD drivetrain configuration as standard and I think they use the CRV Real Time 4WD system.
Then It would be a matter of mating the CRV drivetrain to the 4G63.

Any Ideas?

I've bought the H22 Swap Guide cause I thought that might be the easiest way to go considering the wiring harness etc. Theres no doubt it would be the cheapest, I like the 4G because of its capability to handle boost, not sure if the honda engine would reliably handle 14 - 16psi daily, let alone the times i wanna get boost happy :D
Yeah sleeving I know, just dont know how much punishment the block will take.

a k swap would be cheaper and can hold boost but if u did a k swap u wouldnt need boost cos it would already be fast enough. for the money it would cost you to put a 4g into your civic and make it AWD you could do a k swap and turbo it. but each to there own wot ever floats your boat. the was yrs ago a orange early model lancer like a borg with a honda b16 in it but dont know wot happen to it only seen it round afew times.

The biggest issues you're going to have are floorpan modifications to pass the tailshaft down to the back.

Fitting the engine up and the rest will be a piece of piss compared to this. If you're looking to engineer it, you'll absolutely need to budget for a full cage to take up chassis rigidity where the floor was sliced up as you'll cut crossmembers in half.

Also, there's not a whole lot of room around the rear of an EG civic so may lose some lower boot/false floor etc.

I just see it as an excuse for a surge tank, but hey, that's me. Good luck with the swap, I suppose the best thing would be to start assembling parts and seeing what needs to go where. I don't think you'll have any engine bay fitment issues, driveshafts will definately have to be custom on all four corners though.

Id stick with a k20a swap and FWD ....... and supercharge that if you get bored!

Youre going to be POURING money into a 4g63 4WD conversion :(

Silly silly people

Alright when i use to work at honda my honda dealership was the home to jackson racing (aus branch)

now alot of the mechanics there worked on honda race cars and so on

now you want to turn the EG into 4wd all you do is get the ether 90 model honda civic 4wd drive line (yes they did come out in 4wd just rare) or get a honda CRV or HRV drive system from that dont go K20 go B20 with vtec head as the conversion will be done over night i think it took the guys 7 hours to change the head and replace the motor in a eg civic breaze (carbi) to a b20 with vtec head and have it running

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qxtf3_IHTfs&feature=related

there is a 4wd civic for you :p

now with the 4g63 i would say you just get full evo 3 front and rear cut and then you will have to work from there who knows what you need to bolt the 4wd system up

if there's already 4G63 and 93's already being transplanted in the civic shouldnt that mean it should be easy to mate it with the drive line? i'm guessing the crv driveline wouldn't be that different as they are already using that drive line with the b18 and k20..

i would say crv be the best bet for the rfact it uses a b20block this would be the same layout as a normal civic where as the k20 sits the other way around so alot more work invold in the conversion

First of all,
Sorry to everybody for bringing back this thread but after months of researching how to 4WD my Civic I found a Civic RTSi on a NZ auto trading site.(4WD version of my Civic, same year/chassis etc)
These Civics Use a fuel tank similar to the CR-V that have a groove through the middle of the tank to allow the driveshaft and rear diff to pass through to the rear.
I got a vehicle history check of this Civic using the rego number.
Got the VIN number (this was the key!)
Contacted Honda NZ
And guess what I found?

The last fuel tank in Japan for the Civic RTSi.
So I did what any idiot who wants a 4WD Civic would have done
BOUGHT THE F"N THING!
2 weeks later and look what just came in yesterday

I wont be able to start the 4WD conversion for a while (because of funds) But at least I have the fuel tank which means I won't have any floorpan/crossmember modifications to worry about.
Can anyone recommend an engineer/fabricator who specialises in custom engine conversions and 4G63's.
I wanna try and line it all up so I can get an engine in and then move on to the driveline.Once I get some momentum this project will be full steam ahead.

Thank you

that must of cost you quite a bit from honda! good to see something different though! woulda just stuck with a k20 though :p

you're wasting your cash.

after you're finished no one will want to buy it and you'll end up giving the car away for a fraction of what you have spent on it.

Maybe... But Im not building it to sell it.
Im building it for me man, Not anyone else
Okay you got me, I'll just buy an evo and be like EVERYONE ELSE :)

a customer of mine in sydney did an ed hatch with ee trailing arms
and rd1 crv motor/box- rear diff etc...with a b16a head.

it was a track car only but he said it was very taily and hard to drive.

emanuera, maybe you could build it and then sell it to me for next to nothing...ill take it off your hands
