1988 VR4 Galant JDM in Japan now.

Gday Lads,

I have a 1988 VR4 Galant in stock here in Japan. Unfortunately the guy that originally wanted it has been retrenched and cannot go ahead with the deal, so that is why Im telling you guys. Its got 86,000 kms, was a genuine one owner car, is totally stock condition, and in perfect mechanical order. Paint and panel is very good, and there is no acco history. She aint much of a looker, but for the price you cannot get a better machine. Throw some coil overs on it and some decent alloys and this could be a wicked car.

Asking 225,000 yen. Which should land at about 7,000 dollars after freight and compliance and tax etc. And guys please dont bust my balls on price. Im letting it go almost free as it is.

Which company do you use to ship? Container or RORO? Insurance?

All the relevant paperwork can be done from our office here. Roll on roll off boats are leaving here every week.

All cars have to be complianced before being driven on the road in Australia.
I'm not sure what needs to be done for SA, but for Victoria:

Seatbelts
- All seatbelts and buckles replaced with ADR approved belts. Post 1996 vehicles fitted with genuine belts.

Child Restraints
- Child restraints need to be fitted where applicable.

Instrumentation
- Dimmer switch fitted on all cars to allow the dashboard illumination to be varied in intensity.
- Speedometer in km/h.

Other Interior
- Driver?s side window must not operate with the ignition off.

Lights
- High mount brake light installed if not already fitted to the vehicle.

Fuel Filler Neck
- ULP fuel filler restrictor neck fitted.

Mirrors
- Driver?s side convex glass must be replaced with flat glass.

Windscreen Wipers
- Wiper inserts replaced.

Emissions
- A new catalytic converter fitted.

Tyres
- New Australian DOT approved tyres fitted.

Labels
- Tyre placard affixed appropriate location.
- Emission control and tune up information affixed to under bonnet.

Engine
- Brake Fluid flushed and replaced.
- Engine oil and filter changed.
- Air and petrol filter changed.

Sorry guys. I addressed all this in a previous post and my computer fricked up and I lost the whole thing.

Compliance quote is 1,200 dollars. Shipping is US 1,000 (about 1,265 AU) Theres GST of 10% (thankyou Johnny :evil: ) and another small tax. The car is FOB 225,000 yen approx 2,600 dollars. All up you should get change out of 7 grand.

Simon, honestly if I was you, I'd go around and find a VR4 exhaust (which is flanged and can be unbolted), VR4 teins or something, and a set of wheels... Then try and sell it. It will cost you nothing, but it's inevitable that the buyer will want this stuff in the long run, and it will save them money too.

Otherwise, you're just competing in an overcrowded market!

VR4's compliance issues aren't that severe because they come stock with...

Dimmer switches for the dash illumination

If you change the REAR belts to ADR compliant ones, you don't have to change the front ones. It'll pass as is. Right and left seatbelts MUST be retractable.

High mount brake light's on any vr4 with a rear spoiler. If you remove the rear spoiler, your car is TECHNICALLY unroadworthy, but nobody cares.

You DO NOT (I REPEAT DO NOT) Have to replace your catalytic convertor. THIS IS FOR RAWS COMPLIANCE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO REPLACE YOUR TYRES UNLESS THEY ARE UNROADWORTHY (Tread) or if your rwc joint is anal you might get done for not having speed ratings on the side.

You do not need to change filters or fluids (RAWS ONLY). You WILL need to regas your aircon if you want it to work. You will need to replace your wiper inserts.

Tyre placard and emissions information can ONLY be fitted by a qualified mechanical engineer.

Oh, I never degreased my car for compliance. It was happily dirty as hell and it passed just fine. Same for RWC.

Not any more... :roll: (Changed the rule just after mind was imported) If you sign a document saying that the car is being imported for personal use they won't degas your system.

R33 is different - thats a SEVS import, not a 15 year import..

Do yourself a quick check if you've got a jspec vr4.

Turn the car on, turn it off and play with the windows. They still work for about 30 seconds. Then you'll hear the relay click off
