dunno if this is posted elsewhere, but is very indepth about the rpm vs. torque argument re stroke or not stroke.
is a bit heavy with charts and smart stuff.
not really light reading

good find mate.. ill defiantly have a read when i get time..

I see stroking as good bye gearbox/transfer.. better add 10K to your build for a PPG box.. (i know abot of people will try defend this but unless you wanna replace a box a yr its worth getting a PPG box) this is in a drag racing application..

My car is 2L and my bros is 2.3L.. our power is almost the same mayb 30 odd HP difference.. in the end it depends what you want... on the HWY he will pull away from me simply cos he has more torque then me but i can rev harder then he can.. i daily my car he weekends his car.. its not that he cant daily it its cos fuel is expensive..

so it suits some and doesnt suit others.. :)

i like that. 'on the HWY he will pull away from me' gotta be a reason to build a 2.4.
i just bought a dohc 2.0 from a sonata for $150. now need to find a 2.4 block to put the head on

have afew gearboxes spare... you'll need it..

in 1/4 times there is only 300th's of a second between us... yes he will beat me but i havnt been beaten by anything else yet...

That's some great feedback DIESTI :)
What sort of power and torque figures is there between both cars? and any idea where the power is made in the rpm range? B)

Troy's is 2L-GT3076R full boost @ 4.5k 22psi
Mine is 2.3L custom 35/40 full boost 4k 26psi

In a 5th gear flat foot mine walks away like nothing else :p

On the road the extra torque of a stroker is very noticable, cominh out of corners, pulling from on the roll etc...makes for a much faster road car.
But as a lot of people have said before the top end power isnt much different at all.

On another note, I like 3076s(I have one on my S13), one of them on a 2.3 would be mad for the street.

Thanks Rob. :)

some people dont think about the difference that way..

Yeh but even with the 35R on the stroker the torque makes up for the lag..

you have a point about a stroker being a mad street car.. yes a stock box might be ok for a street application for awhile but it will still have the same stress from the engine..

A couple of quotes
Torque wins races horsepower sells cars
Horsepower is how fast you hit the tree. Torque is how far you push it

Awesome B)
Where do you two boys get to drive 5th gear flat foot at 200kmh+ to notice the difference between the two? B) and before that is it pretty much similar head to head at WOT?
I reckon add 4psi to the 2 litre so they are both at 26ps, (makes up the 30hp difference between the two at the moment). Then give it another try ;)

The extra torque would be nice, especially for a race car off boost.

Hahaha good one Oldie. But no matter how much hp or torque you have that tree aint gonna move and you're fukd either way lol

5th gear cruising on the hwy.. Flat foot from there he pulls away from me... Only cos his got the torque....

To add another 4psi i need a new intake manifold and up my exhaust to 3.5'... Well that what i wanna do as im still only running stock intake manifold and throttle body and 3' zorst....

3" exhaust wont restrict it, unless you have rubbish mufflers on it. 3" is plenty for 650@wheels easily. Just put a HTA 35R on the 2litre and let it rev :)

I can vouch for the stroker idea! 2.4 ltr and only 18psi full boost at 4k and when you put it against a 2ltr and on a race track torque wins every time

providing there are no trees!

the off boost response is so much better than a high revving 2 ltr, I overtake soo many cars just the fact I dont need to change gears anywhere as much.
match that with a well match gear ratio and you have a nice combo!

Oh and you dont need to screw the boost up to have that nice constant pull feel, plus the reliability! 18 psi these days is nothing.. (I am thinking of going to 22psi - just for shits and giggles)

Troy

so the 2.4 blocks are 4g64 that are in heaps of mitsies, also g4cs from >1990 sonata which are apparently better than the 4g64 because of 7 bolt crank and that you dont need to block oil holes in top of block.
but also ive read that the g4cj from 2000 ish sonata and santa fe. this engine is drivers side engine but DOHC and for me would require the head changed for the opposite hand head to suit engine on pass side.
this would suit the later lancers.
have anyone used a later rh mount 4g63 in their evo 1-3 lh mount lancer with a early dohc head? do they swap around easy?
