Hey guys, i'm not sure if all of you have heard about this latest greatest thing called DSM link, so if you havent, check THIS.

I know that Dan (AUSVR4) has the 1g version on his VR4, and is totally stoked with it.

Say If I bought a 2G DSMlink for my GSR, would I need it all the time, or could I simply tune my car's eprom on the fly, then take it out and tune someone elses car, without losing all my settings??

On the website, it says that only the 1g version remembers all the user adjustments permanently? Why not on the 2g version??

evo 1 upwards is a 2G but your car being a GSR... does it fall under either heading?

Considering you can use an EVO ECU in a GSR, then I guess it puts it in the 2G category?

thought 2g referred to the first series 94-99 of when the engine did a 180 in the bay. e1-3 are 1g cars arent they?

1G= VR4 type engine
2G= evo 1,2,3 type engine
3G= after that. IE that newer eclipse, the gay one :roll:

I rekcon youd be able to use it. Maybe shoot Darren at FFWD an email, he might be able to shed some light. Noone in Aus seems to know much about it.

Dre,
The tuning is in the eprom itself, so if you put the standard eprom back in you will have the standard settings again.

The 1G version is an eprom soldered to a memory board which is how it can save the adjustments. It means that with the 2G one, if your battery goes flat you lose the settings.

Having said that....... when you do a datalog you also log all the settings. If you bring up the last log you can open up Fuel or Timing and simply press Copy to ECU to get them all back again. So it's not too much of a problem.

This sounds VERY promising!

Anyone want to go ways on one??

I figure if we get 7 people at $100 each, we can have the settings of an aftermarket ecu, for S.F.A.

I'm not getting what your saying. Only one person can have the settings because only one person will have the eprom/memory board

but cant you burn the settings from that eprom onto another?

That would be a lot of dicking around I'd say.
You'd have to make a program to extrapolate the info from a 1G memory board. And I'm sure the owners made that pretty hard! Even then the only settings that are hard-wired into the board are the basics that you give them (such as which MAF, injectors, rev limit etc etc).
All of the stuff the DSMLink has can be done with an eprom, but it would take forever to get a spot on tune if you were to burn an eprom at every change.
