Called Shannon's today to ask about my 3" exhaust modification. They told me that it is a performance upgrade on my particular car model and that my monthly fee will go from $89 to $99.
$120 a year just because i fitted exhaust on???? :(:(:(

That's crazy. I insured with them last time my car was on the road. I listed everything including cams, rods, pistons, turbo, inlet/exhuast manis, etc. Like agreed value 12k and was only just over 1k a year.

Mate you shoulda said, ok I will have to change insurance companies if you raise my premium. Betcha they woulda said, oh, oh, ok we will leave it as is.
Cheers.

Shannons insure the modification, so in the unfortunate event of an accident in which your exhaust is damaged, they will replace it with a 3" exhaust.
The $10 increase is probably to do with the 'overall value' of the insured item.

Yeah and who else can you really go to apart from Shannons?
Unless you drive a stock car, you're kinda stuck with whatever they give you.
Just car only do simple mods iirc.

LOL, yeah non-shannons insurance =

Owner "Hi I'd like to in sure my Mitsubishi colt 1.3"

Rep "Great, that'll be $351 per year full comprehensive"

Owner "Cool. Oh, I have a few mods"

Rep "What kind of mods does it have"

Owner "Um, it has a sports muffler and some aftermarket wheels"

Rep "Oh.......Um.....well in that case due to the modifications we'll have to put you in the "irresponsible crack addicted drunk driving baby killing bogan hoon who pisses on public toilet seats" category,

so the premium might increase a little"

Owner "how much will it increase?"

Rep "About 2 grand..............hello?........hello?"

:p

Shannon's will cover you for everything, however if you have an accident in the blink of an eye they will write your car off and send it to the auctions to make their money back on.
That happened with me a couple of years back, accident wasn't my fault, repairs were a lot less than the insured value so I requested that the car be repaired. The assessor wrote it off anyway and offered to sell it back to me - this tuned into a twelve month battle with them! And this was MY insurance company who I'd been paying over $1,000 a year to cover my car and who are supposed to be on my side should something happen.
They say they are for car enthusiasts but just like every other insurance company they are just for themselves.

I go to the auctions a bit. Modified cars are a bit of a risk as usually I think they are thrashed, stolen and pranged. If you know the car history, I would let it go to auction and buy it there.
I thought shannons gave you first option on the wreck?

Unless you have a original evo, why insure it? If you prang it just pay to fix it or strip it and get another body to build. The base vehicle is pretty cheap and most mods are bolt ins. A engine/gearbox is the expensive bit and generally will survive a smash. If someone hits you then they fix your car.
Take responsiblity for your actions and how you drive. You mess it up, you pay for it.
Obviously 3rd party property is important for us that dont have it included in licensing

ive got every single mod on my jummy insured with shannons, even the feul cell with customs lines. im paying $99 a month for 25K plus i get the car back for free (no buy back option)

Give Lumley Special Vehicles a call. I wouldn't go with Just Car, too messy to deal with.

Cheers,
Aaron.

I love how people distinguish between just car and Shannon you are aware they are the same company right? They're both part of aami they're just different brands targeted at different markets

Just car at the younger modded crowd and Shannons at the older. They use the same assessors same repairers and same policy statements.

Idk I don't really have any experience with insurance companies.
Regardless of who they're owned by, it's what they're willing to insure your car for that counts imo.
Last time I tried to get a quote from Just Car, they only offered to insure for predefined modifications.
As you could imagine, they didn't exactly have fuel cells + custom lines in the options list.

It just seems that people are able to to define very specific items with Shannons and list their car at almost whatever value they wish - of course at the expense of high fees.

With just car you make a phone call and you can list specifics but also their predetermined mods can be quite broad. I just switch to j car from nrma went from a 2250 agreed to 8000. Everything except the replace with an open check book paint job is covered

Ahh ok so you can list specific work with Just Car.
How much do they sting you per year for that agreed value?
And would you be able to insure it for more if you wanted to or do you have to justify any increase in agreed value with mods etc?
Like Jack, I figure if my car isn't valued > 15k then there's no point getting comprehensive.

P.S with 3rd party you should be covered for any damage sustained by an uninsured driver.
not true 3rd party only covers you for damage YOU do. any damage that is inflicted upon you is tough titties,
if your lucky your insurance company MAY help you recover from the at fault party but they will not pay for your damage. only comprehensive covers you for damage done to your vehicle regardless of whos at fault (provided your not breaking the law or have intent to do damage) so say the at fault is a drunk driver he is insured however because he is drunk thats against the law/reckless thus his insurance company washes their hands of them. now mr drunk is a broke bum good luck getting your money to fix your car from them. you could take them to court but all that does is provide a court order at which point they claim bankruptcy and you never see a cent.

kinda become abit of a know enough to hang yourself when it come to insurance and liability claim as of late thing happened at our workshop and lets just say things are going to get messy/expensive for a certain person/company (that's not me/us) (all i can say can't and wont supply specifics until all is settled)

when i did my online quote it came back at $5500 which is still double my old insurance payout. but last year at WTAC the site crew offered $8000 sent an email to them about that they looked back over my quote history/their records and adjusted accordingly. as far as price ~$77/month or $770/year (theres a 2 month surcharge to pay by the month this is pretty standard across most companies) just car don't offer rating 1 for life though but you can buy rating 1 protection for 1 claim at a cost of $35
