Wow ~15K to hire out the venue for 1 weekend. + other fees ~1k

$11k for Motor Sports Club and Driving Schools

track days arent cheap, it costs MGEC $8k+ to run a day at Mallala

I'm budgetting around 20k to put on a two day event before incidentals.

That includes the ambo's insurance, safety officer.

Then we need volunteers to be flag marshalls (people who aren't racing/dead cars), pit officers, scruitineers (hoping to get a couple of mechanics/very knowledgeable tuners in for this one), event marshalls, someone's missus manning the bbq (VERY IMPORTANT!!!!), etc.

There will be at least 2 car trailers there that will be available for broken cars that I know about already (one being mine).

Assuming we follow around evonats pricing of ~$300 a car, that's 67 vehicles at breakeven. or 70 vehicles. 7 groups, 30 minutes a group, 2 days, etc. Plenty of track time, I think everyone would be happy with that?

Then there could also be a show'n'shine previous to the events (and for non racing cars), pub night on the friday night (as we'd aim to run fri/sat), and maybe a major cruise on the sunday. Literally make an entire weekend of it. Plenty of opportunity to recoup costs.

And this is assuming no sponsors at all.

EOI's have been posted here, Austarion, ozvr4, VIC Imports. Not a member of other forums, so anywhere else anyone would like to suggest we should post for a vic event?

If I was travelling from interstate, which I would be I would want to make it worth it. I would be happy only spending an hour on the track, I just wanna soak the atmosphere in and put faces to "names".

I'd come over and be a track marshall for the day (have my CAMS license to do so).

Also if we were clever enough to sell some merchandise and make a bit of money on it we (the forum entity) would hopefully have some profits to donate to the event.

if costs are 20k and you need 67 entrants at $300 each to make it work, who pays the rest if entrants fall short???

i still say make it a Mitsubishi nats where all mitsu powered vehicles can enter.

i think an actual track will be too expensive, why not hire one of those old air strips, its where the toyota nationals are held, in Dubbo on an air strip, plenty of room for drag racing and a motokana event but most important is its a cheaper option. i think the event would be too boring if there was track racing.

Have you ever participated in a circuit event?
I find drag racing somewhat boring, and motokhanas are incredibly hard on the cars especially in an awd.

The learning curve for track racing is much much much kinder than the learning curve for autokhana, khanacross and motorkhana.

Also, we've done drag days to death. Frankly, I'm not even remotely interested in organising a drag day. You can goto calder any given friday night for drags. Infact, you could probably attend their drag night directly following our circuit day.

At this "EARLY" stage, it's looking like Friday - Circuit, Saturday - Events (on circuit). With a show'n'shine thrown in, and I'm talking to a mate of mine who is heavily into car audio to run a Sound off comp on the side for those of you with retardedly expensive stereos :) (And the ricer's amongst us *handup*) hahaha.

+3 to Jonson's suggestion of speaking to MGEC about how they go about running their Track Days. Could help us avoid all sorts of headaches we aren't even aware of at present.

so there will be no plan for drags at this 4g nats thing?

There are currently no plans for drags at 4g nats. We run seperate drag days at heathcote. Booking Calder's dragway on a friday night wouldn't be possible anyway as they run their legal offstreet drag thing.

I mean behind the wheel not in the grandstands:p

I praise the guys looking into making 'something' happen whether its 4G Nationals or Mitsubishi Nationals etc. It will bring the Mitsu community closer together, form and solidify online friendships and be a spectacle to see. Dont give up, you're doing a good thing no matter how big or small your event may be.

Its also good to have goals, somewhere you want to be later down the track. So if your small events are successful, which they should be as I think you're on a winner, you could look at including the greater Mitsubishi community. You'll have people making interstate trips to participate and crowds come just to spectate. It would have the potential to be he largest Mitsubishi run event in the country. Again, a good thing and something Id pay good money to travel to and experience in person. Hey, I'd even bring the wife and kids along! :)

It'll be daunting at first but I suggest speaking with organisers of similar events, perhaps even the organisers of Toyota Nationals to gain some understanding and insight into what makes their events so successful. Im sure they would be all too happy to assist another marque's aim to hold a similar event.

As a car enthusiast we need a few good men with the ambition and dedication to start something exciting. You guys are young and passionate about the cause and I know you will get a small event happening so dont give up. Just a few words of wisdom in the meantime... dont get married and dont get your girlfriend pregnant because it will kill your dreams. KILL YOUR DREAMS I TELL YOU!!! lol

a) this thread is full of LOLz

b) all 4g powered vehicles FTW. I want to see em awd '63t satrias on the track! I know theres afew of em here in VIC alone :)

wow u almost sound serious... well in the last 3 pages anyway. seeing i have a tiny experience with organising motorsport... ok i organised 2 deca events and thats my only experience... plus i majorly pissed off John ;).

anyway as already calculated u will need 70people..... that means 70 people turning up on the day and most definately paying atleast 1 month before the event. i think evooz started lot smaller than that on its first nats.

having only organised deca events, and seeing and doing first hand how the evooz admins/mods organise the nats... u will need a lot of people, and being ur first time, expect atleast 100hrs of prep work before you even start the day. u have to arrange insurance, book venues, arrange ambos, arrange volunteers... fill tens of forms, make tens of forms for the entrants to fill on the day like entry & indemnity, pay heaps of money and then wish that all entrants pay up. you would be forgiven to think thats it the end of the road.....not a chance.

u will most definately need 100% reliable people who will not be driving but will be the clerk of the course, flaggies, scrutneers, someone to hand out forms to the entrants. prizes etc etc. and if these people do not have experience then expect the day to run not very good, i think my first deca was really crap but i improved in the 2nd, experience is very important. what happens if a car drops oil on the track, or has a mechanical failour or accident. how quickly can u get that car off the track is where experience comes in.

the most biggest problem i can see is 2 things,
1) u need a solid base of people who regularly goto the track (not ppl whose first track experience will be the nats) as that will most definitely end in sorrow. an experience track person with a decent powerfull car (let alone someone with an evo) will not want to be stuck behind a complete noob driving a FWD 1.5l carby lancer running $15 pads and drum brakes.
2) having 2 track days right after the other, will be a very big burden on cars. i have a feeling that many cars will fail on the 2nd day. i think this evonats 5cars had problems on the first day (winton) these cars are setup for track and have good maintenance, even jeff beaumont's evo had gearbox issues.

the next biggest problem is location, many ppl will not want to travel to winton, its 3.5hrs from melb, even though i think its one of the safest tracks but also quite technical and would highly recomend it.

the list of challenges could go on, but they are challenges and if u r determined then they can be conquered. just remember to treat the volunteers/officials kindly. i would most probably recommend starting small. one day event and go from there. or maybe Haunted Hills would be a suggestion. its a hill climb for ppl who dont know less than 1k track downhill and uphill. very technical and very very enjoyable. track hire would be cheaper than winton (i think they are over 7k on weekends). and about 50people would easily be amused. i did one day there with DD and 45cars we got 20+ runs through.
the other recomendation is getting someone like tampered motorsports to organise the day for you. most probably will cost more but then everyone can enjoy the day.

anyway if u guys have anymore questions i am happy to answer.

Heres where my suggestions i suggested earlier come into play.

Day 1 dedicated track day, stipulations on what sort of cars can race ie power requirements etc...

Day 2.. Track events, go to whoa etc.. etc..
No stipulations, these events will only be run 1 car at a time so there is nothing that cant enter... ideally they will use up 3 parts of the tracks for the 3 events simultaneously so everyone will get atleast 3-4 turns at each event!

Im trying to suggest that they should have an entry fee of $300 for both, and $175 for each if entered seperately.

That way you cater for both sides of it, so people who run a 4G cant feel as tho they cant enter anything cos they can still roll around the track with other 4Gs in the track events :)

I prefer sanddown but they reckon we cant race on that? Second preferrence would be winton however that is quiet far if anyone breaks done and accomodation might be hard to organise.

Personally i would like to see 50 cars at the track day and around 200-300 at the events day... quiet possible... especially with all the clubs you can involve.

Jon
