Just had a quick question probably asked before (if so, my apologies) but is the 4G63 that comes in the Evo exactly the same as the one that comes in the Ecplise? The reason I ask is because it is sometimes kinda hard to get certain parts for the car imported from Japan etc and if it is the same as the Eclipse, it would make life much easier for me buying certain parts from here in the Bahamas or even the US.

Thanks in advance for any info you guys may have :)

The evo motor is considered to be the same as a 2G 4g63
The vr4 motor is the 1G motor

I think 1g's are pre 91
the 2g's are 92+ excluding the new style evo motors...

so if the eclipse is a 2g motor, they should be the same parts

bolt on stuff should all be similar, major differences are:
crank
flywheel
bottem end parts
head port sizes although head parts are shared
intake manifold due to port sizes
engine mounts
cas
and more...

but things such as turbo's / exhaust manifold / timing belt parts / etc etc are compatible within each other..

if you want, post up what your looking for and we can tell you if its compatible or not...

Thanks for the reply! There are a few things I was trying to see if they matched up like tubular headers, better spark plug wires etc, but just wanted to know about the 2 generally speaking. Good to know they are pretty much the same thing :)

exhaust manifold should be okay

not 100% on the ignition leads though,
where do they sit on the 2g?
same as the evo?
length is the main concern.
if they are located in the same area's then it should be as good as gold..

Yeah...Looking at the engine bay in a few pics, they look almost identical. It looks like it is the exact same motor which was why I was curious. I know in some cases different cars will share basically the same motor, but will have a few different internals etc which was my main concern. My main thing about wanting to know was basically for general knowledge.

Thanks again for the replies :)

The eclipse motor is a 7 bolt engine just like the evo 1-3 barry :)

Only reason the flywheel doesn't match up is the eclipse uses FWD instead of AWD. Crank you shouldn't be replacing anyway. Pistons/rods are actually compatible from vr4 right thru to the e9's. Head parts are also shared (if you get e4+ cams, reverse them... intake in exhaust, vice versa).

Exhaust bits will all bolt straight on.

VR4 crank does not fit a 1g Eclipse... I had to use an Evo one ... I think it came off an Evo VI or VII ...

The Eclipse is a FWD which is the GTS-T ... The GSX is AWD ...
