ok fellas after sorting out the thermo fan fiasco. i've been able to run the motor alil more.

and i've encountered to odd things.

1) at around 1800-2000 rpm the motor hunts (it only does this at that rev range go beyond this range and it'll hold fine it'll also idle just fine.) <1800 until you hit the hunt spot will run up fine then there seems to be a 200 rpm hole where it'll hunt once you get outa the hole it's fine once again.

2) i don't seem to be making alot of boost (i managed to wire in my boost guage today.) and while you can hear the turbo spool and get that all to familiar turbo induction noise my boost guage dosn't register any more than 1 psi (digital guage) until your litteraly ringing it's neck at 6000 rpm and even then the highest i've seen was 6 psi for a split second before i backed off the throttle (i only managed this reading once every other time it might creep over to 2 or 4 psi but usualy only stays at 1 psi.) i tested the guage was working by giving the guage a squirt of presurised air from the compressor and it read a soild 16 psi. waste gate isnt stuck open also tested it with low pressure form the compressor and actuator is moving like it should from closed to open holding while theres presure and back again once released.

i thought it might be the bov leaking presure which it seemed it was so i swaped in another i have here and it still does the same.

any ideas fellas
 
symptoms described are similar to that of a boost leak.

I just found the leak in my evo 1 was the plastic box under the drivers side guard has a small split
 
yeah i don't have that resonator custom piping might check the j pipe flange tomorow. it's about the only place i havn't sprayed soapy water.hopefully i can sort this before thursday. because it goes on a trailor to the exhaust shop ready or not.
 
did you touch anything on timing belt side of things? maybe the timing is very retarded by a tooth or more
 
when it hunted the first thing i did was change the tps out for a brand new one because i've had hunting issues before. so tps is brand new i know it works cause i pulled it from my other motor which had no hunting issues. tps hasw now been set as per evo cpe's link. jeez my rough install was damn close.
 
oh just a thought, might be stupid but are you free revving it and looking for fullboost? because if you are free revving it without load then it wont develop boost properly............................... just a thought.. cos you said you were waiting to have an exhaust system fitted
 
yeah moi someone else pointed me to that first turbo engine so i didn't know that sitting in neutral and giving her a rev wouldn't do squat.

evocpe from what i can gather now no it doesn't still hunt i was able to slowly bring it up through the range and it didn't hunt but the engine was still reletivly cold at this stage so i'll check it beter tomorow afternoon if i have it back from the exhaust place.

exhaust offered to me for a right damn reasonable price.

down side is the place is in slacks creek (just south of brisbane) and im on the coast so the car goes on a trailor tomorow morning.

if anyone wants to save me 48 bucks and lend me their trailor that'd be awesome

getting it back is no problemb (dealer plate a get out of jail free cars (from exhaust place to home with no front bar or mod plate under the delivery of vehicle to and from place of repair clause)

if you can't tell im getting excited to finaly have my baby back!
 
well i got to actualy drive it today and all seems sweet except a small nigling thing with the clutch. the old man noted 12 pound of boost as he pulled from 0 - 110 in 2 gears. so i know now there is not a boost issue.

when i drove it my face went :) :p :D then i started to hit boost and went :eek: :blink:
