Hey guys, my car is almost ready to start so i decided to do a compression test today to see how healthy it is. The motors been sitting for 2 years with a dry sump.

I filled it with oil, leaving the old oil filter on as i was going to run an engine flush in it and change it again. Pulling No 1. spark plug out after a few turns of the motor i noticed that the spark plug was drenched with oil:thumbsdown: , cranked it over without the plugs in and then did a comp test. First results were cyl. 1 50psi :blink: and so on. Thinking the worst i decided to crank the motor again a few times, untill the cylinders had no oil in it. Final results came back as all about the 170psi mark across all four. I'm going to assume that since the motor was sitting for so long without oil in it, the piston rings had stuck to the piston and eventually free'd themself up after turning the motor over a few times.

Anyway i have no oil coming out the turbo oil feed from the head, which is normal when the motor isnt running from what i've heard. Is there a way i can prime the oil pump ? or maybe turn it over by hand or a drill to 'pick up' ?

cheers blokes

it can take ages to get oil pressure in a motor after its been sitting for a while.

if it has no timing belt you can spin the oil pump with a drill to get oil in the head.

we made up a special tool that forced oil through the engine in the end until I felt comfortable enough to start the engine

Cheers Fredmo:lol:

Ive heard of the no timing belt idea, but man its a pain in the arse when its in a cordia!

Whats this toy that you made? stil need the T belt off?

we modified an old fire extinguisher believe it or not and put an air fitting on it top pressurize the extinguisher which pushed the oil up through the oil pump,

actually worked very well but its not so easy to do at home.

another clever bjp built product.:thumbsup:

Good stuff, i like your style :thumbsup:

Ive got a compressor here and welders and what not so could prolly knock something up too. Which part of the oil pump do you need to blow thru? not very farmiliar with the pump

thanks mam

we actually back fed it through the pressure sender and turned over the motor buy hand at the same time...still took a bit of time

All sorted boys
Came up with a bit of a design too lol - used my coolant over flow bottle, filled it 1/4 full with engine oil, air compressor on one side and other end where oil sender thread is..worked a treat had heaps of flow within about 40 - 50 seconds of doing it

:thumbsup::thumbsup:
