hi, today after i gave my car a quick wash, it start to act oddly. When i hit the highway i floored it and it began to to shudder, like it was boosting than not, boosting than not. If i keep a slow gradual presure on the pedal it will boost fine, but when i hit the throttle wide open it just shudders, pops, backfires. I ask a friend of mine who is a mechanic, he said you filter probally got wet and froze up. So i took of the filter dried it and put it back on, mild improvment. It still shudders but no backfire. I disconnected the battery for 5 mins and tried again, same. Could the water have gotten on the map sensor? or is this something serious? It drives normal under little or no boost. And it is -5 celcuis today.

Just let ur car idle for a bit and it should dry all the water.. it would be just water in the electricals...

Ive always hit all the engine bay with the compressor air gun after a engine bay wash, never had an issue, I normally use a can of engine degreaser and a household high pressure gurney.

can i clean the maf sensor with electrical cleaner? the car got 68,000 km's prolly a little dirty. i notice like a mesh type screen behind the air filter in front of the maf, looked a little dirty.

so today dropped to -17, the problem is still there, i let it idle for a while, drove 60 km's of city and highway, but it has'nt gone away, it seems to be getting better. I noticed too that my boost controller is showing that it does'nt hit the boost i set it to. tomorrow is supposed to be +3, how do i clean the air flow sensor? (i thought it was maf, my last car was a focus)i've never seen one that big before.

Is this the air flow sensor?

yep,thats the airflow sensor mate.

i have not cleaned a mitsu one but i used to you contact cleaner
on the nissan

what are the leads? if your saying spark plug wires, they've been replaced when i bought it 4,000 kms ago. he changed the plugs too, if they are copper they'd prolly need replace than eh? what is the gap space and recomended spark plug for these cars? it was the first time i left the car running while i washed it, and the first time it's been below 0 when i've washed it. could water be frozen onto the sensor on the AF sensor? and what the heck is that mesh looking object between the filter and sensor/.

i pulled the plugs, they were gapped to 1.0 mm, i regapped them to .8, did'nt really do a thing, just idles a little better. It's supposed to be in the plus's tomorrow, hopefully the boost problem goes away. I double checked my boost, it's spot on, only sputters and hesistates on full throttle (or close to it), get's worse if i up the boost to 1.0 bar.

today was +3, as i drove home from work i tried boosting, it seemed like i had to 'retrain' the boost controller to boost. I set the controller to .5 bar and slowly accelerated into boost, got to the stock boost level like .6 bar. I switch from a mode to b mode (it was set to .75 bar) and the boost shot up to .9 bar and tried to level off, i returned it to a mode, and it was working fine, so i played with it, boosting not boosting boosting, than i uped the boost by .1 bar, it spiked higher than leveled, i kept doing it till it ran according to the boost i set. As i got it up to 1 bar i noticed it was'nt boosting to 1 bar, was like .91 bar. i retrained mode b as well. It's working way better than yesterday but not perfect like before. Any ideas? Oh, the spudder is when it spikes, than cuts off to drop the boost.

Has anything changed or just the engine wash? What heat rating are the plugs? Fouled or wet plugs shouldn't affect it that much but I had a similar problem with mine, changed to colder plugs and gapped at .8 and it was fine. Leads shouldn't give you any problem when its hot. Running lean???

If running aftermarket boost controller and running factory ecu leave the boost control solinoide plugged in but dont have it plumbed in. this has caused a few issues with others before the ecu needs to read it weather its plumbed doesnt matter...just a thought.
