changed wheels and tyres now making funny noise

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Check your tailshaft carrier bearing. It might be on its way out or the bushes which hold them are worn. Adjust your coil over a bit stiffer at the front which will help eliminate the noise until you get it fix.

thanks for all the help and ideas im gotta go meek on thursday so gonna try put car on hoist and have a look. it doesnt go into gear that smooth when its cold and not sure when clutch was changed but it crunches 3rd sometimes so i think 3rd gear is on its way.

Mines the exact same.... i mean with third gear... this is getting scarey. whats rego on your car lol (jks)

Had the tail shaft off and taken to G&J DRIVELINE to change universal joint, carrier bearing, rubber boot between the 2 shaft and a re-balance today. Evo 3 gsr.
The issue was vibration noise on deceleration. Gears also crunch a bit on 2nd and 3rd. The outcome was gear don't crunch anymore. Car vibrates less, much much less. I still have to change carrier bearing mounting bushes as when I took them off I notice they were very worn. Also notice the plastic spacer on 1 side of the mounting bushes were missing. I supplied the parts and G&J driveline only charged me $150. New genuine carrier bearing were only $60+ gst. UNi joints were only $17 each.

Carrier Bearing Mounting bushes are on order from Torque solution. Only $50.

This will help with ur vibration and crunching gear problem.

told meek about my problem and chris said it was because of the clutch that was in the car it has something to do with the hub, so might just tough it out until i need to change the clutch which will most likely be soon :(

where did you get the uni joints and carrier bearing from?

Carrier bearing at Mitsubishi - must quote part number MB837576. Just need 1 if gsr or Evo. $60 plus gst.

Got my uni joint from Statewide Bearing, but you can probably get it from any bearing place. Part number RUJ1783. this number could be different at other places. You need 2. About $17 each.

Get your shaft re-balance and the boot between the 2 shaft repair if its broken.

The driveshaft shop will probably paint the shaft if you ask them. Driveshaft repair and balancing only cost me $150. I did all this for about $260, but it depends on the driveshaft shop you go to. Should call other places for quotes. Got quoted from $150-650. You must remove tailshaft yourself and bring in the shaft to them.

Once all done I suggest changing all your carrier bearing mount bushing. I'm very happy after doing this. Let me know how it goes.

yeah some of those quotes are alil high i mean i got my shaft shortened serviced and balanced for 250

when you said you moved it again and wone rear wheel was free made me think maybe your rear calipers had seized locking the wheels in place

Any luck with this?
Not yet ive got my car pulled apart and gearbox getting serviced aswell as a new clutch which chris from meek said its the clutch plate thats making the noise so getting a geniuine evo 3 clutch plate put in and gonna get the uni joints and maybe carrier bearing done.
