OK so i stuffed up my jap spec GSR ecu don't ask how lol,

i did a search and could not find the info that I'm after,

i went to meek today & he doesn't wanna fix it cause it will cost heaps thats what he said,

so would Mitsubishi fix ecu's ? or there is someone around Sydney that does ecu repairs ?

To tell you the truth, it'll probably cost you the same amount to diagnose the problem (unless you already know what it is) or fix it, then what a new one would cost......

Appaently there's a guy in QLD that Meek sends their ECU's too, and there's also a guy in NZ- but in all honesty- unless its a basic fix, it's probably not worth it.

How'd you do it?? Don't be shy- accidents happen!

In the long run you will be better off just getting one secondhand from somwhere.

If i find another i will buy it ,but it's very very hard to find a Jap spec model

Thats what meek told me too,and he said to send it to that guy in QLD will cost me an arm and a leg so yeah,

Im shy lol it was really stupid, well a few months ago i posted on evocoupe.net how to connect an autometer air/fuel gauge on,most people told me to hook the signal wire from the ecu easier then the o2 sensor,so this guy said any (WHITE) wire from the ecu loom would work,so i hook everything up today after 5 min i see smoke coming out from the air-con vents, the ecu was on fire ,then i realized that i should not believe what ever i read on the net .

If It is a GSR ECU I thought you could only chip the Aus Spec ones anyway?
I think you need to explain to us why a Aus spec one wont suit your needs?

not really- heaps in NZ!

They're the same as A-spec GSR's anyway aren't they? Eprom? The only things could be different MIGHT be the maps- but if you're going to chip it- doesn't matter!

Did you try socketing it by yourself and fuck it up?

Nah there are not the same as the A-spec,i have a A-spec on the car now when i opened both up the don't look the same the jap spec you can't chip it the a-spec you can ,when i plugged in the Jap spec in the car today it went much faster then the a-spec,the only reason why i plugged in the jap spec ecu in is cause i changed my engine to a jap spec and the ecu came with it.

Fairly sure you can chip the pre-facelift (< 1995) JDM GSR/Libero ECU's (like the one I posted above in the Trademe link) but not the facelift ones.

Yeah i know you can only chip the a-spec,but i don't wanna chip noting just wanna run it like that ,

the reason why the a-spec is not good for me is cause my thermo fans don't work and my engine is a Jap spec, wanna match everything right,

BTW the engine is on my proton satria GTi,the gti ecu controls the thermo fans ,and the a-spec GSR ecu doesn't due to the lancer GSR having the thermo switch on the radiator .

don't wanna chip noting, just wanna run the J-spec not the a-spec.

If you get really stuck, I'd thoroughly recommend ECM Tuning in the states, especially with the Aussie dollar being so strong ATM...

http://www.dsmlink.com

I got a single socket non-eprom VR4 ECU socketed and repaired for $165 AUD plus $36 shipping.

(They also do repairs to standard ECUs if you don't want it socketed or chipped)

Apparently the board was in quite poor condition and needed a lot of extra repair work to get it up to scratch, and they didn't even charge me any extra to perform the additional repairs.

Any questions I had were responded to straight away, and communication throughout the process was excellent.

Seeing as a "pot luck" VR4 / GSR ECU can cost upwards of $250 at a wreckers these days, I feel it was money well spent, as my ECU is now a "known quantity" in terms of quality & reliability.

Thanks for the info boostboy,i have emailed them with some pictures just waiting for a reply,

i rather repair it then pay a wrecker 250+.

You might of fried a chip or two, if you've seen smoke....

I could try fix it, but I'd have no idea if I'd had fixed it, I'm assuming these guys would test the ecu's with some sort of software once their repaired or at least input data from a pc and check the outputs.

Just ring up the guy in QLD and see how much it will cost/get a quote.

Why pay a wrecker when you can get one off here for $150, or even trademe for $35!

Like i said in the previous post, really hard to find a Jap spec model ecu ,but easy to find a A-spec :(

I still reckon you're wasting your time repairing an ECU that has fried.

What i'm struggling to understand is why you need a J-spec ECU, and J-spec only...??

Just get an A-spec ECU and chip it! Problem solved!

*EDIT* aren't they both the same power output?

J-spec GSR:

Power 143 kw @ 6000 rpm
Torque 269Nm @ 3000 rpm

A-spec GSR:

Power 141kW @ 6000rpm
Torque 255Nm @ 3000rpm

Looks like a small difference in torque, which you can gain back by chipping the ECU with a custom eprom- gaining even more power and torque!

CLuTZ its the forum members way from the comfort of your lounge room how to fix your car.

I would send any ecu to meek and get it overhauled peace of mind in my book

reliability is everything to a few
