Hey guys,

My mate got pulled over in a booze bus and was asked to pop the hood by a rather obnoxious cop who also made a pretty smart arse comment to him.

Apparently the cop said it was illegal to have a pod in conjunction with a stock intercooler... but I always thought it was legal to have one form of aftermarket induction? The jack said he would let EPA deal with it.

Have I had it wrong all along or was this cop one ego trippin' douchebag?

Discuss.

na mate im 100% sure u can have either a aftermarket cooler or a pod not both but u can have one \
\
cops r great arnt they

Yeah they're great, I've also noticed that there's been heaps more on the road lately to give the illusion they're doing more for society, it's terrific stuff!

Also, if you have a cooler that was mounted on the front from the factory it's legal to have both a pod and an aftermarket front mount? That's what I've been told.

Also, the cop said something along the lines of "Fully sick mate" to my friend... I would've taken his details down and reported him for being a dick and "subtly" racist.

pretty sure even if the car comes with standard front mount it has to stay standard for he/she to have a pod and not be aftermarket

There has been allot of them around but i dont drive so i havent taken to much notice.

There all pricks better not to think about it as you wont get anything done by that. Report it and ur report will just go in the pile of every other ''WOG'' witha nice ride lol

Thats there biggiot ness lol not mine

yep fully legal to have one form of intake mod.

also allowed to have a bov aslong as it is a plumb back and not an atmospheric one.

there are certain cops that abuse their power.

but there are nice ones out there.

booze buses are never good theres always a cop there that always wants to be a hero. have noticed it on many occasions.

Once i went through a booze bus and i did the usual and the cop that breath tested me said it was fine and told me to go on and some cop out of nowhere jumps out in front of my car as im leaving and pulls me over and defects me. At the same time he was being a smartass.

Been X 3 ^^^ with one of my old cars (black liteace van with flames up the side) Sad thing was, the van was probably the most standard car i've ever owned but its the only one i've ever had defected!

Yeah that sucks Polo...

So by keeping my stock cooler and pod I'm staying legal, but by replacing it my car's illegal? I don't get how that works... Hypothetically, I'm replacing a standard item with a better one, aren't I?

it's obviously different down there, here you can have an aftermarket cooler that doesn't matter, as soon as you put a pod on if it doesn't have a heat shield then it's illegal

You can have either a cooler or a pod..BUT if you have a pod it must be enclosed and use a non oil based coating on it,.. otherwise they can defect the vehicle because the pod is not enclosed and its a fire threat..

so that being said.. the pod would have to be boxed up or enclosed in the same box it came from factory otherwise that is a loophole which they can get you on..

And that alters the fuel mixture which would alter the emissions of the car to be too much out of the factory spec.

what jon said is correct... it's an EPA guideline.

you may have only one modification to the vehicles intake...

pod filters are allowed if:

they are boxed in (partly to reduce induction noise so i've been told)

they are not oil based (oil based filters pose a fire threat in the event of a backfire)

Thanks for shedding some light on the matter for me... Fecked if that's stopping me from mounting my new front mount though.

oh and btw, clearly the cop was a douche cos his pod was a foam mushroom filter fully enclosed in a custom heat shield he made.

what makes you say that charlie

On a flowbench an K&N will get outflowed by the stock paper based filter. Did that at uni a couple of times. Promptly removed the pods from our cars. No wonder they "felt" better.

zoom did a test on this a while ago...

i can't remember which issue it was now, but the Drift (blue) pod filters from Autobarn flowed the best out of a range of about 15, including a'pexi, hks, k&n, bmc, etc.

So how does that fan thingy on the bench at autobarn make the air flow through the k&n filter so much better than the stock paper element?

There is a difference between how well somthing allows air to "flow" and how well it "filters" dust out though!
