Help Support 4GTuner:

My car is fine and drives fantastic hi in the rev range.

It is just down low it feels like it is flooded.

What do you mean by flooded????? If you had excess fuel you would be popping huge flames out the back.

Is the power surging? Does it take longer than usual to reach fullboost?

Are you using the right sparkplugs? BP6ES?

If I accelerate away from the line at full revs it bogs down, as if it has to much fuel. Once I reach 4500 rpm the car picks up and runs fine all the way to redline.

When I back off the acclerator the car is popping and cracking so I am coasting to the lights etc to reduce the noise of the car.

I havent driven the car for 5 years as I have been overseas so I can't comment on the car reaching boost.

The car has an airfilter and a cat back exhaust, no other modifications have been made.

It was occuring with the old spark plugs as well.

What would happen if I disconnected the o2 sensor.

Should it change or run the way it already is if that is the issue?

Your car would run rich on idle and cruise. I have run without 02 sensors before- doesnt make your car run better or worse, just uses excess fuel.

Sounds sort of like how my car was running:

Check your knock sensor. I screwed mine into the bottom of the block  (I know I know..) and because the sensor picked up all the crank and bottom end noise the ECU would pull timing and dump more fuel into it - resulting in a loss of power and it running like a slug.

When we relocated it to the top of the block near the head (where I should have put it in the first place!) the problem went away and the car ran fine.

Your knock sensor could be faulty or not in the right location.

There two places where the knock sensor can be mounted???
well there's a first.

Bought all new vacuum lines yesterday so I will be trying that and a new ECU today.

Failing that it is now booked into Neal Lowe for next Monday!!

I have given up. It is off to Neal Lowe on Monday morning. Hopefully it isn't something entirely stupid.

Well the TPS has been set and the AFRs are fine when the car is driven normally.

I am going to wind the boost back up to factory as I currently have it set at 8psi. I still feel the car has the same issue as before but apparently everything reads fine.

Will have to wait and see in the next couple of days.

I stripped the car and chucked in for painting.

Before I did that I changed the AFM and it appeared to have resolved the problem. Last time I changed it I didn't leave the battery disconnected for long enough.

Will find out in the next few weeks if it has fixed the problem or not.

I will probably send it back to get the fuel filter changed next.

Nope I haven't checked the base timing. Probably should!!

Ok well the problem is not resolved. I was flogged off the lights by a workman in a 6cyl Falcon Ute today to give you an example of how slow the car is.

Next steps are as follows

1. Timing
2. Fuel Filter
3. Injector clean

It went to Neal Lowe and he said it was fine. Ran it on the road and said the mixtures were fine etc.

I don't want to but I might have to do a compression test. The thing is though it is fine high up in the rev range from about 4k on.

I used to launch my EVO III powered GSR and the car would go sideways off the line and fly. This car bogs down and runs horrendous almost like it is flooded and then flys in the upper revs.
