Just need to vent!! Spent all day today redoing the rear hubs and installing my E3 front swaybar.

In the process I managed to slip with a tool and smack it into my forehead, so now I have a nice 15cm nick on my scone which wouldn't stop bleeding, and about 2 hrs later jammed the tip of my right ring finger between the rear control arm and trailing arm when I was re-installing that, so now that's all numb and starting to go all red and angry looking.

FARK! I hate it when I injure myself through silly little mishaps, esp twice in one session :mad:

"MORE SPEED LESS HASTE" is my new motto :rolleyes:

There is good news - the work got done. :D
 
I've had a exhaust flange fell just above my eye, swelled like a mofo. Few hrs later an engine mount bolt fell too in the same spot. Hurt like hell since it was right on the bone.
 
Lol at all above. The first thing my girlfriend said when she saw me was "What the hell happened to your head!?" then the second thing was "It's swelled up and looks like a giant zit" (my bump - not my actual head...) :eek:

The car is running great now George, we pulled apart the old bearings and found that one of the plastic cages which holds the bearings had shattered and the bearings were just all over the place inside, no wonder it was starting to grind like a mofo (great word - "mofo")

We put the fresh bearings in (thanks again for those mate) and she's running quiet as a mouse. We also managed to get the EVO3 front sway bar in - WHAT A PRICK OF A JOB!!! We ended up cracking the shits trying to take the EVO1 sway bar out and getting an 8" grinder and slicing the "mofo" in half to get it out. I then had to drop the tailshaft and lever the K-frame down so we could somehow feed the EVO3 one in. But it's all done now and feels sweet.

I'll have to remember the Vasoline for the bleeding - the sonofabitch wouldn't stop and it was starting to get annoying.

I've found that with a decent sized job, if you tske your time assessing it, figuring out the best way and then just tackling it calmly it goes a lot smoother. My worst one was the apprentice was holding an exhaust up, got distracted and droppedit, I copped a flange in the top of my skull and was bleeding heavily. To make it worse, as it dropped on my head I reflexed and jumped up and SMASHED my head again on the hoist arm. I've never seen our dickhead apprentice run so fast.
 
Its just one of those things that happens ufortunately. I started wearing some 'Ninja' brand gloves which are excellent when working on cars. I hardly ever get pissed off anymore as have pretty much come to accept that sh!t happens and there's always one bolt left that wants to be a c*nt and make my job longer/harder. Unlike Frankie, whom late last year cracked the shits that he couldnt undo a bolt and then punched the tyre... breaking his hand! lol He was in pain but I couldnt help but laugh :)
 
isnt smashing / cutting / slicing / bruising random body parts just part of working on a car??

Did u catch the apprentice and tie him under the hoist while u lowered it :p
 
being an old bloke I remember a time when having a pony tail was cool.....yeah i know. anyway I had a pony tail that i used to plait when i was working......well one day I was using a creeper under a customers car. she was standing right there while i shoved off under the car with great speed. in the process getting the plait jammed under the wheel of the creeper....many four letter words .....the lady left. damn near scalped me

lol, here's one for you. Before Xmas I jacked up the front of a mates car with a hydraulic jack and put the vernier calipers around the lowered Kings front springs to check the diameter of them - the job was only going to take a minute so I figured there was no point in going through the hassle of getting the car stands out. My mate grabbed the digicam and leant in to take a photo. At the same time, unbeknowns to the both of us, my little 3 year old boy had snuck outside and put the jack handle into the jack. Then BANG! the front end of the car dropped instantly with my wrists caught in between the 17" front tyre and the fender and I couldnt get them out.

I had to twist my arms in a way to ease the pain and when my mate tried lifting the car with his hands I managed to get my right hand out but my left was stuck in. The little one was screaming because he knew he had hurt his daddy and I was just calmly saying 'fark, lift the car up' lol. By this time my Mrs asked 'What's going on' and I remember saying 'Gee, look where my hands are FFS' lol... My mate then quickly attached the jack handle on and began pumping but in his haste he forgot to do up the screw! lol.... so after a few more seconds the car raised and I got my hand out.

My hand was blue due to loss of circulation and it took a good 20 minutes or so for the pain and red line in my wrist to subside. I swear, if his car was any lower than what it was I would probably not have been able to work on cars ever again.

In all my years working on cars and especially around other people and kids this was unforseeable proving that shit CAN and WILL happen so safety is the number 1 priority. Two valuable lessons were learned that day:
1 - ALWAYS use a car stand/s no matter how small or quick the job; and
2 - ALWAYS place the jack handle in a place where you can see it, and KNOW where the littles are at ALL times! Just in case they decide to help daddy work on the car.
