hey guys.. just put a deposit on a gsr on satday pending on racv inspection..

all it has atm is an exhaust and a filter.. was just wondering how do i get a flutter.. or what do i need to get it..

coz on my 02 rex wen i had it.. all i did was block the bov from the top mount cooler with a piece of cardboard.. although it stalls once in a while it was worth it..

is there any way i can get the flutter on my gsr..? and will it stall as well..

thanks

Tharaka is gonna hate you hahahahahaha

But i'm with you, although cardboard is a bit too lebbo spec for my liking.

Same deal man, just block the BOV off... although this time maybe do it a little less backyard style.

Does it have the stock GSR cooler?

cardboard hey? couldn't you find any coke cans to hack up?

blocking off the blow off valve will work, but maybe to be a bit less cruel to your turbo, get an adjustable blow off valve and tighten up the spring so that it flutters at low boost but vents through the blow off valve at higher boost pressures.

read this too:

Flutter basically occurs when you do not have a BOV. This is known as compressor surge and is not too nice to your turbo. It occurs when the throttle shuts and your intake system has positive pressure (from boost). All of a sudden all of that positive pressure has to be dissipated and try's to spin the compressor backwards - slowing it down rapidly. Using a high spring rate on your BOV prevents the valve from opening until a certain pressure difference is reached, therefore you can get flutter by doing this and at higher pressure, when you want the valve open it will stay open.
Just putting in my 2 cents... Had many a debate with mates about this one.

can anybody explain to me how the hell dose got its name? im struggling to comprehend it!

as far as i know, a dose pipe is a bigger intake pipe with a pod filter on it.

A dose pipe is generally a 3" peice of piping that comes straight off your turbo .. no filter no nothing( Bit of mesh maybe ). can get pics if needed..

The best dose is off a T3 on an RB powered engine.. you just can't beat it!

hey gli-747.. yeah its still got all the stock parts..

so if cardboard is to lebo-ish.. what should i use...?

thanks

get a new flange made up by a machine shop, but get it made without the hole in it, so its just a flat piece of metal with 2 bolt holes.

oh ok.. and how much would that cost..?
whats cheaper.. getting that or a second hand adjustable bov..
what kind of a bov shold i get..?

also would a cam cover for a 4g63 fit in my 4g93..?

no, the rocket cover off a '63 won't fit a '93

it will be cheaper for u to get a flange than a BOV.

if you want flutter at high boost/rpm get the flange. if you want to be kind to your turbo get the BOV.

go to www.vanzelm.com.au

Derek is the man there, he did my oil drain line off the turbo a few weeks ago. I can't see a flange being more than $50 but don't quote me, that's just a guess. Take off your blow off valve gasket and take it to him so he knows the shape of it.

yeah i think i'dd go with the bov.. much safer i guess.. i dont really need the flutter at high rpm..

my heat shield is rusting.. does it matter..? doesnt affect anything does it..? if it does should i get the arc cover that this guy is selling..

http://4gtuner.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4110

that would fit right..? and is it hard to put on myself..........

thanks dude

Is your car a 4g93 or 4g63? i know it will fit a 4g63 exhaust manifold, not sure about yours though. you'd have to check the bolt holes and see if they match up.

Otherwise, get derek to make you up. it's only 3 pieces of sheet metal, not rocket science!

If your BOV has the same flange as the VR4 one, Skyline BOV's will fit.

Check out the Go-Fast Bits website. That's where I got mine from. It's from an R33 Skyline I believe but you can confirm that on the website.

i have a 4g93... its a 94 model gsr..

but like id only get it if it matters that my heat shield is rusting ...

and if derek makes it.. does he put it on as well?

it won't matter if its rusting, it just looks ugly, thats all. eventually it will rust through but it will take time. you could always just give it a paint with some very high temp paint. the 1500 degrees one would work well. Autobarn sell is for about $12 a can.

get derek to make you up an alloy or stainless steel one that won't rust.

i'm sure he would put it on for you if you asked nicely. it doesn't take long though mate, there's only 2 bolts or something. you'll probably have to take your one to him so he can work out the shape.

I'm pretty sure GSR's have the same plastic bov like the evo's have...
