My GSR got pulled over by an S.A. copper who actually had a reasonable idea about turbo cars!! :fuuuuu::fuuuuu::fuuuuu::fuuuuu::fuuuuu:

He could tell looking under the bonnet I had adjustable boost.:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

I got defected for:

  • Ride height

  • Switchable boost levels (Blitz Dual SBC Spec R)

  • TurboSmart BOV
To start with, I need to remove the Blitz boost controller & the TurboSmart BOV

Did the GSR come with a factory BOV I can legally fit back onto the car?

just use a stock bov, pull off the boost controller and put stock springs back on.
shouldn't be to much hassle

Ahhh spewing John.... It's getting to be a story you here too often these days... A friend of mine had his car for a week and a half before being pulled over for an RBT and ending up leaving with a Compliance Check Notice... Similar to what you got, but needs a full check, with photos and all, which are sent to Epa and kept on file... Nice intro he got to the modified car scene!!!

Johnathon, get rid of that BOV anyway, get a good plumb back one. I'm sure we can find springs somewhere. Removing the Boost controller is easy. I guess it could be worse....it could have had the VR4 engine in it!

Thanks for all the help & sympathy guys - much appreciated!!

@ Jonson - Yeah, could have had the 4G63 in it!

I've had a set of Koni coilovers fitted about two weeks ago, which ended up making the car sit lower than it already was, because they only had one point of adjustment.

I've still got the springs that were taken out. I'm hoping they're factory items and not cut, but I just don't know?

Can you but OEM BOV for GSRs still?

If I fit anything but a factory one, they're still going to do me for it, even if it is a plumback item.

I don't want to have to stress about this shit everytime I drive the car, so I'm going to put everything back to stock and ditch the 18" rims.

Hopefully going to 16 / 17" OZ rims will help on the ride height front, and make her handle a bit better too.

Really starting to think the days of driving anything but a stock as a rock car are well and truly over.

Need to start saving for an Evo VI methinks!

Won't I get done if I fit any other than a factory GSR BOV though?

Basically, I want to have the peace of mind that everything on the car is completely OEM, so they can't try and do me for ANYTHING!!

Really pisses me off how genuine car enthusiasts are being hounded out of existence by greedy state govt's blatant revenue raising, brought about by mass hysteria whipped up by the media about "Hoon drivers"

Do any of them understand how much the unemployment rate will increase if Australia's aftermarket car accessory industry collapses!!?

you can fit any BOV on as long as it vents into the intake manifold (IE plumb-back), & FYI gsr/evo1-3 bov's are the same.

yes its true about the stock car thing, but that's just giving up haha!

For general information, stock Evo 6 BOV's are known to handle upwards of 220kw atw. And they are just the plastic Bosch ones.
Didn't the guy you bought it off have those springs in it when it got defected last time? Chuck them in, make it look stock and put it through Regency. If you need help let me know.

Luckily it only has to go to the cop shop to get the defect cleared, not Regency (phew!!)

Yeah, I'll just remove the Coilovers and put the old springs back in it.

Jon, can I book it in with you to get that done, and remove the EBC and the BOV?

Cheers mate.

FYI regarding coilovers, I looked into this and Fulcrum claim their Tien Super Street/Type flex coilovers for our cars pass & exceed all ADR regulations, making them 100% legal. They can even supply an ADR certificate as proof.

coilovers are a bit of a grey area. fulcrum state that their adr approved struts have non-adjustable legs.. not too sure about other states, but vicroads guidelines actually allow suspension modifications as long as they meet the bump stop / ground clearance, within 1/3 of original travel, and that it meets/exceeds original specification. an engineer's report is only required IF there is structural modification.. it is arguable that since the factory mounting points are utilised without welding/cutting/etc, it is not required.

the only way you can keep a modified car these days is to beat them at their own game by knowing what you can hide, and not having what you can't.

how did you not get a regency defect? cop shops arent alloud to clear sturctural defects

mine passed regency with a bosch plum back

i removed my boost controler and all lines.

if you get stuck you can borrow my BOV for the inspection ( i cant drive the car atm any way with out a licence :fuuuuu:)

That's easy, none of the 3 things I was pinged for could be considered "structural" defects.

Structural to me would imply something that affects the actual body or structural integrity of the vehicle.

i.e engine swap, modified chassis rails or engine mounts, etc.

Yeah, Tein Super Streets were definitely what I wanted to put on my car, but the quote I got from Fulcrum was $3,300 !!!!
I also got conflicting answers from them as to whether or not the Evo III coilovers would fit a GSR or not. One minute they would, with some modification, next phone call they wouldn't!!??

I could sell my car for 9K. Combine that with the 4K not spent on the Teins, (by the time you factor in fitment adjustment and alignment), plus a few months saving, and I'd be in Evo 6 country!!:wub::wub:

hey mate, you can fit evo coilovers into a gsr, there is no issues.

The complication you get is when you fit GSR specific coilovers into an evo, The front sway bar connects via end links to the actual strut, not the lower control arm.
I'm sure there is a thread in this section with pictures.

I'm starting to think that SA is now becoming the POLICE state, 8MR bov all the way its factory made by mitsu i.e. oem and plumb back and holds more boost

Regards to the boost controller I have mine mounted in the sun glasses flip lid compartment below right of steering wheel, even the guys at Botany RTA when it had an emissions test were all over the car and still didn't spot it

Good Luck with it
