4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

You can really only test the resistance of the primary coil and the secondary coil and compare them.
You could put on some other coils like the later evo and ce lancer. Yknow the ones that have a coil on plug and a wire for the other cylinder. They should drop in easy.

Start with a boost leak test!!
Yep gunna make one today and see what happens, should I make it to suit my turbo intake and attachin there or same size as the cooler piping and attach after the turbo? On mcm they disconnect the piping from the throttle body and block it and disconnect the piping after the turbo and attach the tester there. But I thought you would just shove the tester straight onto the front of the turbo and make sure the throttle body was shut and test, then open the throttle body to test injector orings? Is there a better YouTube vid to watch?

Glue is drying on the tester, however when I started to pull of the intake so I can use the tester I noticed the bov had a lot of movement on the cooler pipe, pulled off that section of pipe for a better look and the circlip that holds the bov to the flange was half way off and the bov was free to twist around and move on and out. Turns out the groove for the circlip is slightly too narrow and the circlip wasn't seated properly.

So I'll grind the clip down some, chuck it back together and take it for a spin while the tester is drying, should that fix the problem I have a tester for next time and if it doesn't, I have a tester to find out what else is letting pressious pressure out haha.

Will most likely run the tester anyway because no doubt there will be air escaping elsewhere.

Well securing the BOV didn't completely fix the problem but it did make a huge difference, I'll get the tester on now and see what happens :) got a few strange looks boosting around with no front bar, especially when the external gate opens up :p

Boost tester works A1 found one leak from a silicone joiner where the pipe was a little out of round.

Adjust that to a rounder bit and no more leak there.

Test again and can feel it coming from around intake mani gasket, this will be 100% the issue because I was lazy and reused the old gasket, it looked ok but clearly wasn't.

Where's the best place to get a new gasket? Would prefer something thicker so it can squish a little, there's nothing on eBay at the moment :/

Dont feel for leaks. Put some dishwashing liquid diluted in a squirty bottle. Spray all over the piping etc. You will see it leaking much easier then.

I use silicone or gasket eliminator on the gasket on the intake manifold. Used or new.....

I didn't have to use a spray bottle I could feel it coming out, now that I've found ( and hopefully fixed the major leaks) I will go over with a spray bottle.

I actually had a new gasket, from the kit you recommended from nz, so I ripped the mani off and replaced that. Will run the tester again and see how we go :) glad I pulled my finger out and made the thing, was so easy, will post a pic of the tester tomorrow too for anyone who's interested!

Thanks
