how to get some decent power out of a stock GSR?

hey guys, ive been thinking about finally doing some mods to the GSR. at the moment she is stock as a rock (tape deck and all).

any ideas as to what would see me with some decent (safe) power?

got about 4-5 grand to spend.

theres a start. Depending on how cheap you pick them up, who's doing the work, thats around budget. :)
 
EVO intercooler $2-250
VR4 turbo, $2-250 or big 16g Turbo $4-500
EVO injectors $2-250
Walbro Fuel pump, $130
EVO ECU $200 or chip (to run the larger injectors along with more aggressive fuel/timing maps, including socketing) $130

Simota pod filter $40
Air intake pipe $200
EVO AFM $50-$100
Custom I/C piping $700-1000
3" exhaust $700-1000

Battery in boot $50
Decent clutch to hold all the power $4-500
Shifter bushes, fluids $80
King springs, decent shocks.
 
Sell a nice standard GSR to someone who won't destroy it and buy one that is already done for the same cash you sold your old one for.

Haha I was going to say that, but if he's got the money to burn, why not do up a pride and joy. So many of us have done it!!
 
agreed do up your pride and joy alot more satisfaction in doing that

id address brakes and suspension as a priority just normal stuff like good pads and rotors braided brake lines good fluid .
for suspension decent bushes all around king springs and kyb are a good combination if a small amount of track work is on the table use a adjustable bearing top that adjust camber and caster soo you can set suspension geometry too the right setting for quicker lap times
also front and rear swaybars and raliart diff mount bushes

id definetly use a oem evo intercooler due too size and strength
 
I have to admit, my first thought was also "NO! Don't touch it!", but who am I kidding, my Coupe had the standard tape deck in it when I brought it too.....

1. Definitely agree with pretty much everything the guys have put down regarding engine hardware. I'd go a 14B turbo with big16G turbine housing and probably look at a 2.25 - 2.5" exhaust, my mate is running this turbo and exhaust setup on his 4G93T powered Coupe and it hauls hard. The big16G might be a bit laggy on the 1.8, but that's upto you to work out I guess and what you like.
2. If you're looking to do brakes, definitely go for the twin spot caliper and bigger disc upgrade IMO rather than stuff around on the standard ones (this may involve going to 15" rims). Do the EVO brake booster and master cylinder too.
3. If you're really inclined, front and rear strut braces make a bit of difference on hard cornering
4. Decent rubber on your wheels.

Save your suspension money until you learn how your car handles on the road and track with the new engine hardware setup. Do a few track days and talk to the professionals to get some pointers and advice as to what would best suit your needs and ability (and budget!!)

pre-heat vr4 turbo,
a dash of evo intercooler setup,
charge to 15psi
and serve up 12's
all for under $3000

IMO you don't REALLY need to splash out on LSDs. The viscous rear and open front setup would probably best suit the driving abilities of almost all of us.

What I should have asked was (as an off-topic) has he considered using some of the cash to get LSD's.
