I got bored. So I played withs Springy Motors dyno (lots of graphs!!)

Hey guys,

I got bored after work so dropped by Springy Motors for a play on the DYNO COMPUTER.

Enjoy some different specs of my various 4g builds.

E39A 2.4L (my current setup air to air)
E39A 2.3L (my old setup water to air)
E33A 2.3L (my old setup with stockish head and AMG intake manifold)
STIKLR (you guys know that car)

I've had enough dyno play with my car. Time to not break and start racing.

What I found interesting was the difference with an ELECTRIC BOOST CONTROLLER vs SPRING PRESSURE on the waste gate.

Also, my old GT30 setup has a much better power band than the new GT35 setup BUT that is based on a full tune vs run in tune. If you compare run in vs run in tune, the 2.4L is better.

Also C16 makes a massive difference doesn't it!! I've got a log that did 400kw's but that isn't really fair coz the block cracked on that run!

STI KLR has run high 11's with his setup and wheel spin, hopefully the VR4 can do better once its out there.

The AMG power curve looks promising! It spools up very well and with more boost, it should easily pump out 300kw's at the wheels on about 20psi (fingers crossed).

What do you guys think?

I think the old GT30 2.3L 30psi setup looks like it kicked ass! :) Was it running 30psi on pump fuel or something?
I also think the GT30 at 24psi would be very similar to the GT35R at 24psi if you had graphed them together. Then the 35R making more power as boost increases from then on to 30psi. I'd like to see the 35R at 30psi actually to see the difference between it and the 30R. ie how much better the 35R is at that sort of boost level :)
In the last graph there's a big difference between yours and STIKLR's results, although both running similar GT30 setups. What would that be contributed to?

What would that be contributed to?

Differences in setup:
E39A GT30setup /STI KLR

Intake - Aus spec extrude honed / sheet metal
Tb - XF Ford upgraded / stock evo
Intercooler - barrel / front mount
Head - 272 equiv / 280's
Block - forged / forged
Exhaust manifold - 6boost ceramic coated / 6boost non coated
Exhaust housing - .82 ceramic coated / .63 or .82 (not sure) non coated
Exhaust - 3" dump to muffler (varex) / 3" dump to muffler (varex)
ECU - Autronic SM4 / SMC
Fuel - BP98 / Caltex98
Boost controller - Autronic SM4 / Eboost 2

Plus I think there are a few little things I've done to help such as port matching / power porting / cleaning up the internals of the intercooler piping etc (you know the little things).

I'm keen to see what the GT35 does with 30psi just to compare. Wait till the box goes in. I'll have more graphs loaded.

just corrected your comparison... 1.06 rear on polos setup. (unless he changed it from when he bought the turbo)

1.06? wow, the GT30 0.82 spooled up much better than the 35R 1.06. If it does that with the 2.3/2.4 litre engine then Im sticking with the GT30 (GT3040 / GT3082) on my 2 litre! :)
I know in theory and word of mouth that its said to be a mismatch between comp wheel and turbine housing sizes but the real world results speak for themselves.

VR4 RS (3.909 ratio)

Anybody have a speed vs rpm based on this gearbox?
I remember somebody made a spreadsheet with the info. I just can't find it.

lol thats a pretty messed up graph where it spikes? whats the go?
how come the power curve isnt smooth? it looks very hesistant...

I always thought polo put down 320kw range... learn something new everyday.

Its a digital dyno, so it picks up everything. Plus I believe there may be an option to smooth it out?!?!

You should see some boost graphs, you can see the pulsing in boost (zig zag line) / afr graphs (same as above), this dyno picks up everthing!!

Not sure about that very last flick at the end though. Only my VR4 does it. Not sure if any smoothing can be applied to the graph.

As for Polo's, he had it detuned before he last run it. He was planning to sell it so he didn't want to break anything. Still ran the same time as heathcote though ! LOL

Some new graphs!!

E33A with more boost / BP 98
E39A with PAR DOG BOX / BP98 (350kw on the rs box = 330kw on the dog box )

I ran my 11.08 @ 132 with 320kw's at the wheels. Hopefully I can get deep into the 10's next time I am out! After that, I'll go E85 and try for 9's!
We are hoping to get the AMG into the 12's on street tyres.. It is already hard to keep it on the road with wheel spin in 1st / 2nd / 3rd as soon at it comes on boost.... Maybe some slicks are in order?!?!....

FQ400 has a very impressive torque curve. I'm sure you car feels awesome on the road! Keep up the good work mate!

NOTE: All runs done in SHOOT44 except for the AMG where that was 4F I believe.

Baz,

I think your E39A power curve is what we'll see out of mine in the near future.

Boost controller to be fixed, wastegate spring upgraded, fix exhaust leak and do some cam gear adjustments and we should be right.

I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

damb! after looking at your graphs and hearing your setups I should stop being a sooky la la and stick some boost under mine!

just so I get this right! you make 360kws at the wheels at 25psi out of your 2.4ltr VR4 ??
and your doing it with pump98?

if this is right, WOW! not bad!
shit i only make 275 but at 18psi wind that little dial up and it could get a little crazy
dry.gif

food for thought there!

lets hope your stays together and give you many years/months (lets be realistic now, we cant leave them alone can we?) of fun!

BTW is it circuit or drag?
360 on circuit would be nearly unusable.
