OK, so I have read every thread and even the service manual.. but I can't figure out why my idle is so retardedly high when cold.

The screw on the throttle body is screwed in as tight as it goes.

I have both a VR4 and evo3 throttle body, I swapped out the VR4 for the evo3, its the same thing.

The only point of similarity is the idle speed control motor.. although as far as I can tell it isnt actually connected to anything in particular... how can I tell if it's screwed? It looks a bit covered in soot etc, but I'd assume that's normal.

It says in the FSM that theres a sound that indicates operation of the stepper motor.. what does it sound like? Lol..

when u turn the ign on there is a quick light tapping heard form it.

have u cleaned the ISC out? i know that most Magna idle issues are cos the throttle body and ISC get gummed up and the air can't bypass properly. Clean em out and good as gold. Could try that, or just get another known good ISC

hmm... sometimes when I start up the vr4 the idle climbs for no reason [to just under 2 grand] and it'll slowly drop back to a normal idle... is this what you're experiencing?

I personally have seen the blocking of the Fiav done. Originally a coke can was the suggestion but something a little bit thicker was chosen. As far as i can remember this was a similar problem to what you have.

I think you will find that was probably the egr valve Jason, they are commonly blocked off with a piece of coke can.
I am pretty sure you couldn't block a FIAV with one?

I used a 3mm thick piece of aluminum for mine.

Eh could have been who knows...i know nothing about cars and am a little drunk and posting useless information. :D

I just remember being there and the thing that is in the pictures on the galantvr4.org forums was blocked off. Originally the suggestion was a coke can, but thicker ally was used.

*note coke can might have been a joke suggesiton at the time

**hey tim wanna buy an eprom burner? :D

ISC should be fine, when I turn on the air-con it idles up, also the car doesnt stall or anything when I put the clutch in. I have another ISC in a box so I assume reggie replaced it at some point.

The FIAV must be the culprit, I'll block it off and see what happens.
