New car will be under my mum's name.. so how would this work with insurance..

if im not a nominated driver or whatever it's called, and i have a hit... will it be covered... coz aren't you allowed to drive a car under emergency circumstances...??

Does anyone get me?

Thanks Peter

If you are not listed as a nominated driver I would say you will not be covered?

Have you given Shannons or Just cars a call for a quote? They are a bit more lenient with age, history and modded cars than the major insurers.
My gsr is insured by shannons and they were great to deal with, very reasonable premium price and my mods list was not questioned and I was given an agreed value that I was more than happy with.

haven't bought a car yet mate - but it will be in the family.. looking for a 6.5 at the right place - and at the moment, the white one at img looks like a very good option...

given i only turn 21 in june, just wanted to know the implications involving insuring the fuck..

ive been with just car for 6 years now
they want to know the youngest driver
im currently 23 and am insured with third party with fire and theft up to $10000
thats good for covering a gsr, but dunno about a evo 6.5 because theyre worth a bit more
the policy is about $550 a year now from memory

yeah.. ah oh well.. just gotta cop it in the chin...

now how hard is it to buy a car interstate.. i gotta fly up there look at it.. think about it .. go home.. fkn fly back up..

anyone in sydney live near img and able to have a look for me?

just lack of 6.5's in melbourne ..

Peak Jet star will fly you ass up there for like $150 return

Go check it out for yourself and if you happy drive the car back, that way you only have to pay $70 bux to fly up there and you have the enjoyment of driving it back to melborune

If your spending $30k $150 is a small price to pay for peace of mind, i know cause ive done it! :D

Have you tried LSV?

http://www.lsvinsurance.com.au/

This is who i have been with for yeeaarrrrssss.

They used to be unique cars and something else. Which combined.

They are also by far the cheapest I have been with, also the excess is not silly..

To answer your question. Some insurance companies will not cover a driver
a) If not nominated
b) If under the age of 25

Some insurance companies simply add an excess ie

$500 standard excess
$500 under 25 excess
$500 not on policy

etc etc etc

FULL COMP
premium: 2083
excess: 3200

Third party: 392
accident cover excess: 2200
theft cover excess: 2000

Third party fire & theft: 646
accident cover excess: 2200
theft cover excess: 2000

Thats what i got quoted with justcar... 32.900 car value..

now is it me or is the comprehensive excess abit high..?

That's fucked up..

 ouch!
Did you try shannons Peter?
It costs me $600 a year for full comprehensive to insure my gsr with an agreed replacement vale of $28,000, the only conditions are that it is stored in a lock up garage and not my daily driver.

I know age is a big factor in premium price, also your driving and insurance history. When I bought my triton I purchased through commercial asset purchase..as I use it for work.
It had to be fully insured for finance security and as I had never had insurance except for third party, the premium was going to be massive for comprehensive on a brand new vehicle.

I went through GIO ( who have since been taken over) and explained my situation, they told me that if I had ever used work vehicles and had never had an accident or infringement whilst using work cars and could get a letter from old employers proving this, it would show as a clean driving history.
I got a letter from my old employer stating the above and GIO instantly gave me a rating 1 policy, $550 to fully insure my ute for $35,000 :D

It may be worth a shot to try this approach if it's applicable to you? I hardly ever used our work cars but it did not seem to matter to the insurance company.

28000 for a gsr?? not bad lol.

i dont really mind about the price of the premium.. but its the excess of 3200.. if someone breaks into my car, smashes a few things and damage only costs say 2000, its pointless putting in a claim...

thats what im more worried about...

Yes pretty happy with the agreed replacement value  ..but still would be losing heaps if it was written off :?

I see what you mean regarding the excess, but if you can drag your premium price down it usually means a reduction in excess.

now another question.. this is more turning into a q&a thread for me lol..

if i buy the car from sydney, and it has rwc and rego whatever from there.. and the dealer pays for transfer name costs etc...

when i drive the car home from sydney - what do i need to pay to get vic plates on it...

is it a big hassle all this stuff...

I'm pretty sure you will have to get a roadworthy certificate, and then take it to Vicroads for then to check the numbers and put new Vic plates and you should be right to go. There are often interstate trade ins at my work and they don't have any more hastles than that when they sell them.
