The secret is that is a nice little turbo, people are upgrading it WAY too early! Going fast is about making things work well together and not about going for the "big turbo". Having said that, I am probably going to upgrade this turbo before I realize its full potential on this van.

I believe that it is capable of high 11's under "ideal conditions", but I would rather run consistant 11's on the 16g, so I think I will upgrade it in the next week.

This van has lots of mass appeal from people who do not know 14b from 20g, from R42, they just see a fast van and think that it is cool. I see no point of handicapping myself any longer.

But I also do not want to take away a fun factor, which comes with huge turbos, so I do not want to anything bigger than FP Red, or something like that.
 
[sup][sup]I finally upgraded my van to a 16G turbo (~20% larger than stock). I didn’t expect such a small increase in turbo size to have such profound difference on the tune, but it did! I really had to tweak the fuel tables. But the biggest difference happens when I keep the exhaust cutout closed! The restrictive stock van exhaust really chokes the engine at high rpms! [/sup][/sup]

[sup][sup]Fist pass was 12.08 @113. I lost to a bracket 11.8xx muscle car, but that was a great, close race! [/sup][/sup]

So fun continues!

I took the Summit to the biggest event I can do as an armature driver, 4th of July show at Seekonk Speedway (10,000 spectators). This has been an overwhelming experience! The support that I have received from just about EVERYONE has been truly unbelievable!

I ended up going 4 rounds and finishing 6th out of 72 cars. Not bad, considering this car’s original performance :). But it needs more work, it was pushing too much in the corners…

I had a great time at 20th DSM Shootout at Norwalk, OH! I chose to race in Max Effort class, because I have had some luck in this class before (taking 2nd place Dennis G., back in ’02 or ’03). I really wasn’t sure how this van would react to the AutoX, there isn’t any off the shelf modifications for this vehicle, everything I did to it, was adapted from other cars (mostly EVO8/9). But it did OK, good enough for 5th place among the autox cars and 3rd place overall in Max Effort (after drag racing times were added to the autox times).

I would also like to encourage more cars to race in the Max Effort! If a 12.0 minivan can take a trophy, so can many others! Give this class a chance it a TON of fun!

I am not sure if you guys get Dsport Magazine down under, but there is a pretty nice article about DSM/EVO Shootout, complete with two action shots of my Summit (one autoxing and one drag racing)! The editor really liked my van :)

Just came back from another DSM Shootout in Ohio. I had a blown rear shock, so my handling was a bit off, but I did manage to my personal best ET: 11.80@115

However, when I got back from the race, I found out that those awesome launches took its took. I bent my rear end "mustache bar" (I am not sure what it you guys call it):

I am going to re-enforce it by welding on extra features, but I also need to find a some polyerathane bushings. Has anyone ever found application work in our bars? Do turbo RVR have a different bar? Because this one is pretty weak!

Hi Leon.
1st time I've seen the flat bar bend. HSG is 82mm x 8mm in height at the diff. I'll weld 75mm x 6mm above & bellow mine to turn it into an I beam after seeing yours.

Wow that is some mega twisting, hows the chassis? Super impressed with this build though, ultra stealth, and the commenators remarks to start with are gold until they see it move, that oval track commentator was awesome!
 
Thanks! I am having a lot of fun with this van! More so, than with any other race car I have raved (and I have raced several 9 and 10 second cars).

Had I let this damage continue, the chassis would have been damaged, but I caught I early enough!

US vans only come with 145hp motors, so this bar doesn't have to be very strong, I am curious what they used on 200+ HP turbo vans.
 
Very awesome, Absolute joy to watch, the crowd loved the summit, such a pity you'll lose a hand when someone opens the sliding rear passenger door when fuelling up, but hey, you drive on the wrong side of the road over there anyway :p Very nice Leon, you give me hope that my crappy Sports gear can make it to such a level! I tip my hat to you.
We could send you over a stronger bar for it, but it would cost the same as the freight cost from America which costs the same as an island in the Philippines . I wish I lived in the USA, parts are reasonably priced........sigh.

Thanks again! This never gets old, car guys are so stunned by this van’s performance, that they universally love it! This is especially gratifying coming from the V8 redneck crowd (on the oval track), who usually loathe the import four bangers :).

Do the turbo RVRs have a different (stronger) bar? Can someone please take some photos for me?

I just sent a rear differential parts to Taiwan and it was surprisingly cheap using Post Office (around $60), both UPS and FEDEX were around $100-$120!
 
I will try bribe you guys with more of oval track racing in hope that someone will give me some photos of the RVR mustache bar! :)
