So, have the walbro 255 (with upgraded power supply) installed, and now I have sorted out the injectors, tune and AFM, its running as well as it will get until WB is fitted... but farkin hell, the pump whines away like a turbine is trapped in the tank, really teally irritates me.

So are any of these quieter ?

or

These came up in some threads where it was stated that they were quiet... does anyone have any experience with these and can confirm, or otherwise... ?

Or, can something clever be done with the installation of the turbinebro 255 to make it quieter ?

I have the dw300 in the ute and its very quiet. Not silent, but not noticable. You cant hear it at all when driving and I never notice it at all when idling. You have to listen for it if you want to hear it. And its a high pitched whistle. I had a walbro in it before

Some people say their Walbros "whine" and that's why they are nick-named "Whinebro".
I've heard some whine like my Mrs after a few drinks, but my 255 and also the 416 Ive used have never been loud, only when it primes when you turn the key to Accessories.
I'm pretty sure the difference between the loud annoying whine and the typical fuel pump hum comes down to the installation and whether you are using a rubber sleeve or rubber dampener on the cradle, or whether the Walbro is mounted against the metal bracket next to it with some hose clamps like I've seen some people do.
The fuel pump shouldn't be mounted metal to metal on anything.
Here are pics of my 255 and 416 installs.
Plus my exhaust noise drowns them out anyway lol ;)

I believe its the metal gearing of the pump it expands with heat and causes the whining mine was bloody dreadful on a 35+ degree day sounds like its dying, but it just keeps going. either way i dislike the sound aswell and have gone for a dw300 i believe its a plastic impeller type pump so you wont get that whine they are also e85 compatible and it fits straight in place of the 255 without any mods.

I have an Aeromotive and it only whines slightly when it primes. Otherwise it's dead silent.

As mentioned..you can get a rubber sock that goes over them that dulls the noise down a little....also as mentioned is it genuine?
They are known to be noisy...you get used to it after a while. Its the impeller design that makes them noisy..the new 416 which I have in mine now, is heaps quite due to a different impeller design.

Thanks everybody for the feedback.

I believe it is genuine, I bought it from Meek to try and make sure.

Ok, looks like I can play around with the installation to try an quieten things down, I don't want to replace a perfectly good pump, rather spend the money on something else, I have so much of it, LOL!

I thought that's how you knew it was genuine, whined like a bitch. Read somewhere on here the fakes were quieter??

Anyway, mine was loud and I liked it like that, if you couldn't hear it, something was wrong. Was like an idiot light for your ears.
