Hi guys i have recently done a engine swap on my GSR to a 4g63t out from a evo 3, the engine didnt come with any oil pressure senders since i have a autometer oil pressure guage so i bought a replacement oil sender (electrical) by autometer and mounted it next to the stock oil pressure switch on the oil pump, now when i started the engine it goes to like 50psi and then simmers down to 25-30psi, but with a slight step on the gas the pressure goes to 75-90psi is this normal?

There's no set pressure for modded or even OEM engines as oil pressure will vary depending on engine condition, engine mods, viscosity of the oil used and oil temperature. Summer vs Winter also plays a part in oil temps at startup.
Your numbers look fine to me but can you confirm if the dead cold startup is 50psi? ie. first thing in the morning? as 50psi seems a bit low to me as most 4G63T's Ive seen are higher like around the 80-90psi mark and drops as the oil gets warmer.
What oil are you using?

VR4's normally see 100+ psi at cold start! but as Rob explained... it depends alot on oil thickness etc.

That pressure at idle is quite good also.

Generally rule of thumb

10psi increase for every 1000rpm.
so idle 30psi, 40psi @ 2000rpm, 50 @ 3k, 60 @ 4k, 70 @ 5k, 80 @ 6k, 90@ 7k......

Not always the case but that has always been the general thought for alot of old school guys....

That seams ok to me too. My Evo 1 engine gets 90+ cold and sits around 15lol at idle oil temp is about 90 im using 10w40 tho...

My EIII engine has had the balance shafts removed an bit of other stuff done an I had to remove the oil pump an port it due to excessive oil pressure after the rebuild, I was seeing over 100psi at 4000rpm an didn't wanna blow all the brand new gaskets out.

There is a tread on here somewhere or a link to one about how an what to do, its not a small job however.

Same i was seeing 100psi on start up and up to 125psi at 4000rpm lol

After porting the oil filter housing relief port, i was seeing 75 psi on start up and havnt seen anything over 90psi even at 7500rpm

I just checked Angelo's rebuilt stock RVR turbo engine and it has 50psi at cold startup and the balance shafts rmeoved. I would imagine the PSI reading will depend on where you are taking it from.

My senders are in a sandwich plate on the oil filter housing so unsure if that is a true reading or not. My pressure sender is horizontal to the block and temp is vertical.

The engine uses 20w 50 Amsoil, and the sender is mounted on recommend port on the oil pump not on the oil filter sandwich plate , i didnt let the car warm up to the point where the fans came on though, i got so accustomed to my last engine 4g93t that the oil pressure would usually sit at 50psi on full throttle or even at 25psi when idling .... so perhaps its a mind thing to get used to with this 63t,

so is it normal to get these pressures at cold idle? my next question is since my sender is rated at 100psi what happens when oil pressure goes above that / how will i know? my guage is rated at 100psi max

Is it a stock motor? Of so, 20- 50 is a little thick. Should go for a 10 - 40 or something around there, anyway, I'm assuming by oil pump you actually mean oil filter housing?

A photo of where it is installed would be good.

Readings that I'm referring to are from the ofh.

Baz... Ive been using Castrol Edge 10W60 full Syn and havnt had a prob
Or do you mean for a stock motor??

Alot of it depends on oil temp.
At cold temps the oil will be too thick with the 20-50.
At hot temps it should be fine.

As for your motor, depending on your tolerances, 60 may be on the thicker side of things when hot.
I'm assuming you built the motor to about 1 - 1.5 thou across the board?

If so, I'd use something like a 0-30 / 10-40 oil.

Have a ready of this:

Good info but old school V8 stuff.
But I guess and engine is an engine.... All relevant...
