Has anyone played around with the intercooler piping to get a shorter distance, or better flow (no sharp or 90 degree bends)????

Also, what diameter piping is everyone using? hot side and cold side? Any decent gains to be had???

.

i am,

usuing 2 1/4" piping, going to run similar path to

a vr4 over the turbo the under or through the rsp.

might flare to 2 1/2 near the throttle body

rsp = radiator support panel

i removed about 1 1/2 metres worth of factory piping doin git my way.. a 90 degree off the throttle body straight inbetween the radiator and into another 90 degree into the intercooler.. then over the exhuast manifold.. under the rad panel and into the cooler.

I got the MEEK setup. I'm running a custom extractor style exhaust manifold so can't go over the top of it! Way I look at it though, if it was good enough for a standard EVO, it should work for me.

I rotated my turbo housing and pointed the pipe down.

This I ran the piping straight to the front behind the oil cooler.

i think you need a bigger cooler

Thats funny!

Man that is big though!

Why are the end tanks so small?

Pics of the turbo at all?

P.S. Good work!

I just needed a temporary intercooler so I got an old mack truck core and they just welded square end tanks on.

The car managed 12.6 down the 1/4 mile so I guess it wasn't hampering it to much so I never bothered changing it.

So no pictures of the turbo but the exahust shop rotated the housing 180 degrees and pointed it down. This way they didn't have to run the intercooler piping over the top of the manifold.

No I don't live in Box Hill. The car was sold and all the parts were moved into a grey gsr about 4 years ago. Not sure what happened to the grey GSR it was located in QLD. Had a massive body kit on it but still the same intercooler even after going to APC.

hahahaha if youve removed 1.5 metres from the intercooler piping stock length you must have a subaru top mount cooler

So has anybody done a back-to-back comparison of the "over the manifold" route (ie VR4) to the "over the intercooler" route (ie EVO)???

Just curious to see if the average driver would notice any difference in lag, power etc etc etc...

Does anybody know why Mitsu changed the route from VR4 to EVO??

here is mine................

im pretty sure this is the route most people take over the heatshield, although if i had a turbo that i could rotate the housing on i would have gone the same way but underneath the turbo..... like on Dres old VR4.
