Re-routing IC piping onan evo II motor in a GSR?

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

under, as its the GSR one. I will be putting the evo one on sooon, so theoretically with one of those you should be able to go through it :)

im just setting up a similar setup, i think i will go through the rsp if possible, just for the extra ground clearance,

cheers

Dougmo look how low your sump sits?

I've run my pass side IC (hot side 2 1/4") under the rad support (pass side) and it still sits higher that the sump.

BUT for gutters and the like yes it would be better to have it out of the way.

I'm used to it anyway, also my car isn't on its nuts! i have about 110 mm clearence under the car.

I'll post some pics when i get around to it.

I think i would have less than 1 mtr in total of pipe on the turbo side of the IC starting from the bolt up on the comp housing, to the tank of the IC

If you had an E3 front bar on i think the bar might sit lower?

TRIKFAB

he also did barrys, SIVART, oscar and dres cars........

what about using one of those coolers with the 2 outlets on the one side or the ones that have the vertical design like a radiator?

then u could avoid the pipe going over the manifold etc

this is what i plan on doing to the nimbus when i get her box problems sorted!

hope it helps!

cheers! :D

Does anybody know why Mitsu changed the route from VR4 to EVO??

No, but all the factory Group A rally cars (lancers too) used the vr4 style "over the manifold" method.

Going over the 'cooler there's an extra 180degree bend, which really doesn't need to be there. Whether you'd notice the difference or not, I don't know.

You mean a cooler like this:

And here's a pic when i had it on my gsr:

It is a supra cooler i think and it was on my car when i bought it. I still have it if you want it. I've cleaned out the bugs since that pic was taken. The piping route was really short with this setup but it didn't suit when i did the 4g63 conversion so i just went for standard evo piping.

I think Ford XR6 Turbo coolers are a simelar design, maybe someone could look into one of them as a GSR upgrade

I saw somthing somwhere about a company doin aftermarket coolers for the XR6T and they had the end tanks of the cooler on the top and bottem and the pipes coming in and out the same end

Or this type>>>

I do a sweep around the turbo in a 180deg coil and down behind the rad.on a 30deg angle and then slip under the lower rad support panel and into the IC. My tanki nputs/outputs are bottom right input on rt side and just above centre on FHS and that goes back throught the front cutout to the throttle body. The tanks are all bellmouthed and shaped to spread flow.
From the turbo is 2.25 and then jumps to 2.5 at the IC tank and it is 2.5 out the IC to the Throttle body and jumps to 2.75 in silicon to match the TB.

The turbo IC pipe doesn't even get that hot even thought it is behind the rad. but it could easily be insuliated form it.

but i have only 4 x 90deg bends (all mandrel) every thing else is long and sweeping. It would be a bit shorter than over the top manifold but way less bends! maybe 80cm input and 90cm out (i'm guessing here)
