When im driving its fine...but as soon as apply the brakes i get a ticking noise, back passenger side corner..
I've had the caliper and disc off twice now and put it all back together..shims, clips etc...
both times it went away for about 5 min then came back...just as loud..

I disconencted the 3 bolt flange and spun it..no ticking though...
I applied the brake a little and spun it..no ticking either..theres about .20 mm runout on the face (acceptable?)

The wheel bearing looks a little shitty though i can rock the hub a bit (has .18mm axial movement.) (in and out)

Theres no shim on the piston side pad..should there be?
And one shim on the outside pad...That right?

I though maybe if i had the inncorrect amount of shims maybe the pad would rattle.. :?

Any one know?

On my old vr4, I would get a ticking sound from the rear but only when reversing. It turned out to be rooted wheel bearings, one side had actually spun on the hub and chewed that out and I had to replace that as well.

Assuming its not something simple like a rock caught in your tyre, I'd be looking at wheel bearings, uni joints and the bearings in the diff.

Well the bearing has 0.18 mm in and out..

Dunno if thats acceptable?

How else do you diagnose the wheel bearings?

Thats your handbrake Dan. Happens ALL the time on Magnas with dodgily adjusted Handbrakes.

To check wheel bearings - Be driving on a straight and smooth road with good surface. Then lean the car left and right (weight shifting) if you hear a rumbling/grinding/metallic noise when you shift the weight to the right (Leaning the car right) then its the Right side bearing gone.

Ticking can be a fucked bearing also. Or maybe even a really worn out Uni with a lot of play.

i have had this issue aswell. it is because the brake pas locator clips are either worn or missing. mine were missing on the out side brake pad and made this noise. its because the brake pad is moving in its seat.

and yes both the inner and outer pads need these clips! the crap thing is you can only get them from mitsubishi for about 5 bucks each (unless i got ripped off. also the clips are different for each side of the pad and each side of the car!

if they tell you they dont know what u are talking about. argue with them until they look harder! took me 20 mins to explain to them what i needed.

good luck mate! probly see ya at bwcp again!

If he didnt have the spring clips in the caliper bracket the brakes would bounce around and be noisey when he doesnt have his foot on the brake ie driving.
He said the noise happens when your foot is on the brake.
Its damn near impossible to diagnose a sound over the net

I checked them and theyre all there..im gonna triple check them..cos ive already double checked them...

Im preetyy sure its in there right though..i suspect maybe a warped disc..

I just went out and bought new slotted reard discs..bout to fit them..

See if that helps..
