Hi guys,

I brought my car over from vic last year and the rego is due to expire in August.

I have been warned by my housemate not to register it in WA because it wont pass a test in the pits (it has a custom exhuast.....).

Anyone had similar experiences or could shed light on the situation? Is he correct in saying I shouldnt do it?

check out the DPI.gov website - if you have owned the car for a while out of WA i have a feeling you dont need to get it inspected.

cheers

they "might" hit you for an inspection depending on the year of they car......I think 3 years is the cut off.

regards the exhaust....nah as long as it isnt super noisy it should be fine....I have put several cars over with 3" pipes.

this is something i need to investigate....

Brian what do you mean with the 3 year cut off? 3 years in WA or...?

I did try changing mine from Qld to WA and I had to go over the pits (be it 4yrs ago)... which is fine.. but the moron told me it was too low and too loud, he didnt even measure either of them...

Bad memories indeed..

If you have an address in another state you can always get them to send your rego papers over (worst case) :D

cars over three years old require an inspection.

getting it over the pits is really just common sense.....as long as you roll up with it in a "road worthy" state then you should have too much drama. ride height and exhuast db level are things that can be easily change within the local community. for instance some is loaning a full set of shocks from me now.

I have a welder and can whack a resonator in a pipe in an hour or so...also have a db meter.

you can get a pre inspection list of things they will check at an inspection centre to take away and do your own checks prior to rolling up..

140mm from the lowest point is what they will look for with ride height.as for exhaust i got mine over with a 3in turbo back resonator and a straight through at the back.the guy never looked twice at the exhaust.oops dont forget the cat

Brad

its actually 100mm from lowest point.

technically thats a fully loaded car but keep it a bit over & you will be ok

Yeah, Im not interested in doing it, i dont NEED to do it.

I work in the Acoustic industry and can and have done proper Exhaust Noise Emission Testing to the Australian Standard and a Report to give to the nice fellows at the DOT who dont test.. They use their "calibrated EAR"... well that was my experience, hence the attitude :D

Thanks for the offer Brian

I know this thread is a month or so old.. but I just registered my Victorian registered Yellow E3 in WA with no real issues. Failed the first time due to the inspector saying the DMS suspension that I had put in from the rally car was leaking (was actually WD40 from me spraying all the bushes chasing a squeak!) and that the ABS and Brake Lines weren't in proper brackets. Threw some standard struts in and drove her back over with no probs at all.
Note that if you are a WA licensed driver the car needs to be registered in WA to drive on WA roads. I drove the car back from Melbourne to Perth when I purchased her earlier in the year and had to get a temporary permit to drive from the SA/WA border to home. I guess if you drive the car on the road with VIC plates and get pulled over by Mr Plod and they find you have a WA license they probably seize the plates.... not sure? If you have a Victorian DL then I guess you are OK...... gotta love the law! :)
