RVR Oil Filters

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

In any event, I agree with dj_konix and others - this vehice/motor deserve a high-performance alternative, and it seems logical that the larger overall filter would be better for the motor (as mentioned in the replies). I checked the ebay listing for the HKS Hybrids, and would love to get some (should they be added to your database, Dan?), but, no shipping to South America (everywhere else, yes, but not here - this is something I am quite used to here - as I mentioned in the other thread, just finding parts for this RVR here is going to be an on-going project in itself; if any of you know of suppliers there more amenable to the idea of doing business with a burgeoning RVR-fanatic over here, please send me contact info). I found some of the HKS on ebay UK that says will ship worldwide, so have to check into that (and get past the COLOR). Or maybe I'll try to find some Bosch or K&N, no that I have some time to shop around before the next change...
I have a service due in about 1000km, and I will be buying bulk of those hks filters.
I will be adding that part number to the database indeed!
If you want, hit me up with an address and I can send you some parts of what you want if you can't find anything local.
But I would assume HKS-USA would have something in stock, if not be able to source.
may be cheaper however to buy AUD due to exchange, and postage would be barely anything...

If you did want to go k&n, I do have that part number, and they would be my second preference.
Plus they have the handy washer nut on the head of the filter which means you don't need special tool to remove.

I would possibly contact a few of the shops in Australia or North America and see if they can ship to Chile. There are many performance shops around that surely could.

MattL: looks like Dan is going to be able to help me out on that - we are pm'ing.

All: just wanted to correct unverified filter measurements above - the Mitsu OEM filter (MZ690115) has a 63mm outside diameter, whereas the Korean aftermarket job is 74mm (near 80 at the metal lip at the base), so I was WAY off on my guess (the filter base of the motor is about 83mm, as near as I can measure).

I'll report back more to this thread and the "What oil" thread if I observe anything worth noting as I have opportunity to drive about a bit next week.

I've been using a Z79A Ryco filter on mine here in Australia and the correct replacement is a Z411 (google Ryco Oil filters)
I think the information is on that site.

If it's a case of wanting to buy multiples, I might be able to help you... they're nice and cheap too. The Z79A I use is $9.95AUD where as the Z411 is $19.90 and wont fit into my car due to the dump pipe. Let me know how you go.

Got (and tested) another couple of compatible oil filter part numbers:

Purolator L14459

Mann 818/8

Although, I have to add that neither appear to be a very high-quality build for high-performance applications (i.e.: use only if nothing else is available); I'm really just adding this for information's sake (and maybe Dan will post them up on completervr as well), and in case anyone ever finds themselves in the unenviable situation of not having a choice locally available in a timely fashion (the on-going story of the lone HSG-R here in Chile).

Along that line, I am testing Bosch WR8DCX+ spark plugs right now - yes, I know ours is supposed to be the "7" heat range, but not one of the 10 parts stores here had either the NGK or the Bosch part numbers in the correct heat range, and according to Bosch's chart, the variance is quite minimal (with Bosch, the higher number is "hotter," unlike the reverse with NGK; the plug is exactly the same in every other aspect). So far (just installed today), the HSG-R cranks and runs perfectly (apart from about 5 seconds of initial "adjustment," during which it sounded like the motor misfired 2 or 3 times), and even seems a little smoother [although that may be from the fresh oil/new filter as well, and the fact that the Denso Iridiums that were installed previously may have been 1) living up the the failed iridium reputation in our engine (MattL's comment in "Power Flat Spot"), and 2) of rather great age, although they didn't look too cooked]. I will report any positive or negative effects as observed throughout this next week (fuel economy, engine temp, running rich or lean, etc.). Hey, let me know if there's another thread on here where I should post up this spark plug commentary.

Cheers,
Phil

Spark plug follow-up: the engine started to run progressively rougher - nothing dramatic or very noticeable (except to an obsessive-compulsive owner), but enough to make me unhappy. I cleaned up the Denso Iridiums (IW22) that had been installed previously, reinstalled them, and now it's running like a charm.

I doubt that it was the heat grade alone that caused the Boschs to perform so inadequately, so I'll try to do some more investigating into the accuracy of the whole part number...
