Hey guys,

I'm just wondering what the cost of freight to get a box to the states is?
I'm considering to get my box built by Shep.

I think the PPG is not really streetable plus the cost is ridiculous.

Any feedback on dealing with them at all?

why don't you buy a box from someone in the states and get them to ship it to shep for you. would probably be more cost effective than sending your box over. plus it means you have a spare gearbox if something does go bang.

SHEP dont deal with international customers. So there's 1 of many headaches you already need to deal with.

Theres a reputable box building shop in NZ which would seem much more viable IMO.
After all the kiwis have the fastest 2L awd dont they?
Details are somewhere in the stickies of the vr4 section...

Shep work on a exchange basis due to the RS ratio's.

They need my core to get it done.

I'm torn between the stage 4 and an apc dog box....

either way you look at it, you will need a dog box. stock gearboxes you said bye to a while ago.

or as ppl mentioned, put ur boost down.

Go ppg 4 speed box. At least you know if something goes wrong, its aussie based, so it can be fixed, with low freight costs compared to shep. Im sure sheps dog boxes uses ppg gear..

It depends whether you really want to go dog box or not I guess Barry. Are you going to be street driving it more or drag racing? You might also want to have a chat to twicks69 over at dsmtuners. His name is Tim Zimmerman and he runs a 9 sec 2g that he runs a syncro'd stock style box in. http://www.tmzperformance.com/index.html
If you are going to be doing a lot of street driving a dog box is going to suck. If you just want to drag race it then go for it.
For your power level I really do think that you can build a stock type box that will work, of course anything can and will break!

Thanks for the link Tim!

I'm really considering the stock built box because I'll only see the track now and then.
But on the other hand, I really do want to shift as hard as possible when I do go on the track.

I'm just wondering how long these evo3 type built boxes go for endurance wise.
Are they baby shifting it or are they going as hard as possible.

If they're doing 8's and 9's in those boxes they'll be going as hard as possible! lol
They only upgrade to Evo spec steel selector forks and rails anyway Baz. Shift hard son!

hey mate my ppg box is a bitch for going slow ,im about to install a parr street gear set into my street car cause i snapped my input shaft clean off at the fly wheel ,,and going to run E85 so should be chasing round 520hpw + im all andra spec to run 10s so i can let u no how it goes ,just dont touch albins peice of s#*t lost 9k because they didnt assemble it right and they dont give any warrenty.nicks black evo 3 runs 7s worlds fastest they run ppg 4 speed custom ratio same as whats in my fwd drag car .we looked at building an auto but u cant make them strong enough to run into the 9s

So PPG is not good for street?

I'm getting so many conflicting reviews.
Some say its ok for the street, others say its crap.

What happened exactly with the albins stuff?
As for the PAR, how do they compare with cost of going full ppg?
I've heard that they are a hit and miss thing also.
I would love a street gearset though.

I wonder if it was simply a case of tired old gears in my box. Maybe they just need to be brand spanking new from mitsu.

There is a guy running into the 8's with a stock type box (built of course). His name is KEVIN and is from Kiggly Racing. He is one of the other pioneers with these cars. He's made some really good parts that others haven't made. He's currently running mid 8's in his fwd AUTO.

As for AWD Auto, not sure if its the same story with the mods

PPG claim that their skyline has done 20,000km on the street and it's gearbox is still going fine. It comes down to how you drive the car IMO

I've been offered an EVO3 Ralliart Gearbox with the Ralliart VCU. All I'd need is a 4 spider centre to make it a good street box. I wonder if it will hold up for

I wonder if the RA boxes are built as good as these US performance guys build them.
I think they retail for about 4500 + 1200 for the vcu.
