Hi guys, I was going to put the big ass battery to the boot but with changing battery technology I've seen some guys run a small gel-type battery sideways or tucked away against the strut tower in their cars. Is there anywhere locally that makes generic small battery mounting kits?

Sort of like this:

yea, iv seen lots of people (track/race car) use drycell type battery. common ones used on motor bikes, etc...

donno if its good for cars with extra acc (big stereos, tv's, neon... etc..)

:D Thanks George. They look good but the stand looks to be made for Braille brand of batteries which look to be bigger size? - sort of 3/4 size of normal batteries or am I blind? get it? braille! The side mount one is good too but lack of space sucks

I'm sussing out the Odyssey 680 or Pulse 400 dry cell batteries atm so looking for a mount to suit the dimensions 185mm (l) x 80 (w) x 180mm (h) :)

They're both the same batteries .. and they're shit. I'd avoid using one if at all possible, and use a proper battery (Optimas are very good, though you do pay for them).

Yeah I know the Odyssey's lose charge when not being driven for a few days/weeks depends on where you live and temperatures as well. The older Odysseys were a bitch but I hear the recent ones last longer. I'd like to hear some more about what type of batteries people use instead of the normal large acid type as I want to get rid of the stock battery mount and put an airbox there.

We went and bought an optima yellow top for my brother's gf's car last year... bloody expensive and heavy things they are (would have been over 15kg for sure) but worked great especially when her car has hydraulic suspension in it.

we use an oddessy in a mates race car(race only, no reg)
and it has lasted 2 seasons without issue. been quite good actually

Still searching the net and found a brand called DEKA (absorbed glass mat technology) sealed battery. Reading posts on the nissansilvia.com forum about them - dont hate

Yeah, I should qualify my statement.

I had a PC680 for over 7 years in the lancer .. it wasn't bad, would usually start the car, but after four or five days without driving, it'd need a jump start every time. Apparently the problem is they just don't like any sort of current drain (however small - eg, from an alarm) for any extended period of time.

That battery eventually died on me (7 years is pretty good), and I needed a battery straight away, so I bought another one as I didn't have time to fuck around fitting a larger one in. The new battery has been a lot better, so the problems with mine might have just been it's age. Unfortunately it's difficult to quantify 'cause I pulled my alarm out around the same time the battery went in, but I've been able to kick the car over after two weeks without a recharge. It's been good enough at least that I haven't bothered putting the Optima I've got sitting around into the boot, which I would've done had I had the same problems with the old battery.

Still, there's stuff all reserve in it, it doesn't last long with the radio or lights on without a charge, and if you're doing it from scratch, I'd recommend putting something else in (like an optima :))
