I really don't think that a GT28 or a GT30 is really going to make a significant difference in spool time or top end power - they are both ~similar sized turbo's with seriously a spool time difference of maybe 300RPM... I know in my car I hardly have time to think about changing from 1st to 2nd before i'm on the limiter let alone worrying about 300RPM.

With a factory ecu is not going to make dick all difference to your top end power - so unless you are going to go for a full aftermarket management system and tune every single pony out of it then the GT28 is going to give you the same power faster as compared to the GT30 - which is the definition of streetable.

PS I am only using Garrett turbo's as an example because the specs are readily available and everyone knows what I'm talking about. If HKS or whoever make the same turbo with a Mitsu Flange then thats all the better.

I do want to get a external if possible. Also Dont care too much on price. Was quoted $2k for the turbo that wa susing my housing too!!

So a rip off.

To me streetable doesnt come on later then 3500.

Going by that here is the criteria:

Budget: ~2k (including labour and external gate + manifold?)
Wanting: Useable power that doesnt come on later then 3500rpm
Manifold design: Unknown (Factory flange or aftermarket one)
Type of turbo: Unknown (bush/ball bearing)
Misc Info: Would like an external wastegate

stick with a small 16g then!
my big 16g hits full boost at 3500 with a leak between the head and manifold


i was thinking of upgrading to a gt2871r or that gt3071r that evo-oox was posting about

Big16g/S16g, just stick with what you have bobwrinkle!
 
Why is it all mechanics give you shit prices on everything??

"16G will be alot more then 2k"

I am happy to spend more then 2k on a turbo, but when i could go out tomorrow and grab a 16g for $1304 from gtpumps and i would expect businesses to get trade prices what is going on??

And I was told the bearings on a box would be $800 alone so a box rebuild would be around 3k.

Does this sound right??

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Not sure about a VR4 box but i got a quote on bearings for a GLXi FWD box from SKF Bearings for about - $180.

I then rang Mitsu parts for prices on syncros and it was just over $500 for the set.

$3k for a rebuild :shock: sounds like you need a new mechanic bud.

I have a VR4 gearbox here if you want one to replace - or for parts. It came from a front cut so i've never used it - but if its anything like the engine its perfect... 8)
 
The GTPumps Big 16G evo 3 is a good choice,it comes with all the turbine porting done..No creep problems,which is a massive issue with these turbos,theyve gone to the trouble of sorting it out so for its price and power its a fair option.

A Question to anyone who knows..
Whats the Highest output capable of a E3 Big 16G As a standard unit?
Around 350hp Flywheel?

After I gave the url of gtpumps to my mech, he got back and gtpumps will chuck a 20g wheel in y m 14b for $1300ish.

Much better then 2k+

Still after a gearbox rebuld though.

if ur gonna go to that kind of trouble y not just buy a gt3037 or get a evoIII 16g or equiv?

how much power do u realistly expect to make ? 200awkw? thats a pretty quick car.

easily acheivable with a humble evo III 16g

yes i have seen his AWD 200 kw @ All 4 Dyno Sheet.
And it looks like a profile view of mount everest.
Literally makes 60 All Wheel Kw in about 200 rpm.
 
Had my mech wanting answers while i was stuck in melbourne with all but no internet access. So in the end just said yeah go for whatever you think is the best idea.

So got the 20g wheel and an evo 3 mani from gt pumps, thanks for your input guys.

Will see if it was the right way to go in a week or two :D

Have you put that exhaust on I sold you yet? I rekon theres 5kw just in that mod alone.....
