Suspension options... Need some information

Well I'm looking at new springs, but I'm trying to find out our stock spring rate and spring height, to try and gauge what will be too much

Do you think these would be overkill for a daily driver if I chuck a set of KYB Struts in?

I have a contact in Osaka JP who is going to send me some stuff and I figure if I'm going to order stuff now, I may as well get a few bits

i honestly think for launches and drags etc theat those springs are optimal, but for spirited corners they would be too soft, maybe a 8kg front/6kg rear...front should be higher spring rate due to having more weight over the front.. meh, i just want mine a tad bit lower and comfortable

I just brought some KYB New SR Specials from Yahoo JP with the help of a forum sponsor.

next up will be some custom springs which will be raised around 40-50mm then some 1" lifting blocks.

should be able to get the 31" on then :lol:

I think to get it all 100% you need the shock on a "shock dyno" to get the bump/rebound characteristics, from that you can then select a spring rate in which the shock can control without causing undesirable effects (oscillations, bottoming out etc).

I wouldn't have a clue where to find the stock, un drooped spring rate, I will have worn/sagged information in about month.

It's far easier to buy matched pairs, or buy a shock first the test it and then work out from corner weights etc what spring works best.

It sounds harder than it is.

TBH, the springs I want in the link are hard to get in Aus, and they seem to be the firmest fronts but RSR have a tougher back.

5kg is pretty damn soft! Look into vr4 evo typical spring rates, as especially for the front, they are applicable.

In my cyborg I have 12s and 8s f/r but that probably not cool for a daily as after 3 hours of driving it on normal roads I feel I have run a marathon.

My RVR springs are reset lower & that makes them stiffer.
All 4 springs reset & fitted cost $290..My hands stayed clean

Then factor in that the stiffer the spring you use, the longer the spring needs to be to allow the same travel before coil bind (which is why most coilovers don't have sufficient travel) and it throws a whole other set of calcs into the equation. The scary part is watching someone like Murray Coote do all this stuff in his head when design suspension for a car .

I want to drop my HSG about an inch all round..... as far as I know, she still has the original suspension in it.

And the fact they don't list if it's for the 4wd model. (N11- N2 are same chassis otherwise with N3-4 being the Chariot variant)

It's worth a look into, either by phone (which I'm never a fan of)
Or purchasing a set and then screaming at them when the rears don't fit or the front sits too low on standard height...

Weird how I missed these before, yet I have the bump stop kit on record :huh:


I've just taken note that the struts listed for the Chariot (Nimbus) is the same part number, however the Chariot have no springs listed.
Also, under Nimbus, the front part numbers are identical
I was under the impression the struts would have been different given the extra clearance which the RVR has...
The rears are different however....

Might just have to give them a try.

I'm useing Pedders springs in mine and they feel fine.
The rear struts from a numbus are shorter then the rvr so the thats why the part numbers are different, don't know about the fronts tho :unsure:

Yeah, rears would be different due to FWD, AWD.
Unless they have managed to somehow keep the same suspension setup, minus the rear diff...

Does your car sit at factory height or is it lower?

It's lowered and I use the numbus rear shocks, feels alot better than the stock ones but they where f@#ked

ive discovered that my car came with kyb excel g strust, not sure what the springs are. Its lower then other hsgrs ive seen

From factory the shocks were KYB.

Mitsu bought them off KYB and licenced with their own Mitsu part number.

You can buy the KYB replacement shocks in confidence they are identical replacements,
