Do you know if they (the AGXs) are available for the RVR - the KYB website offers only the Lancer option in the part finder for the AGX, but I was wondering if those would work on the RVR HSG R...?

Yes the Expo mounting system is identical, 2wd front ends are the same as 4wd the difference between the cars was the rear axle setup.
The shocks themselves are different.... at-least on some websites they are. (lower)
I would personally say it's a bit excessive to replace the entire thing if it isn't completely broken, I would not say that is at all standard practise, unless of-course your mech has a loan shark he needs to pay off quick...
if you're game, perhaps remove the strut assembly.

I'm going to go and say you have a worn pad and that's all, perhaps just real bad shocks which is personifying the suspensions shudder, bounce, etc.
As for the KYBs you were talking about, we don't have the 'premiums' here, but they sound like an uprated shock, so might be a better option for a stiffer, firmer more direct ride...
I'm driving around on what can only be described as a pinch and a clunk when I turn left hand corners, and have been since I bought the car a year ago... should replace, will eventually, just don't let it get you too bad, if the car drives fine, then i'd personally say it's a small fix.
As for Mitsu Chille, yeah we have the same problem here, and the word 'import' is simply an alarm bell for 'jackpot' to them. if you find the part that's causing you grief post up and I'm sure we can get you a local supply oem part number to fix it.

Right-o, Dan (pm sent, by the way).
Unfortunately, I dont have time right now to get in there and tear it down and potentially have the vehicle off the road for a long period unexpectedly. What I have found is that what you call a Nimbus there and what is the Expo LRV in the US is the Hyundai Santamo here, and they are plentiful, so through the local Hyundai parts counter, I have the strut mount assembly coming in (supposedly today), and will at least be able to do a visual and verniers comparison when I have it in my hands (the guy at the parts dept. is being very cooperative, and giving me the option of not buying until I am relatively sure).
I won't be able to report on the install just yet, because now I am trying to source the shocks (all 4), and install everything at once. So far it looks like I will have to go with the KYBs referenced in this thread (only solid part numbers I can find), and hopefully you guys or KYB Australia can help me get them sent here.
BUT, before I do that (and seeing as how I intend to also upgrade to the Pedders springs mentioned earlier, if they can somehow ship them to me), are there any higher-performance alternatives for the shocks on the HSG that any of you have installed or seen installed? And polyurethane bushings? Might as well do it all when I have it torn down, but I am not going to start until I get my ducks in a row - and shipped here.

rvrhsr this is a pic I made up to show someone else of my VR4 Whiteline strut brace top hat bracket that I cut to suit my RVR.
You can see in the pic that I've drilled through the whole top hat & I have welded the nuts under the shock top hats.
The Koni adjustable inserts are visable inside my standard RVR KYBs in this pic. DIY is something I like to do.

Oh that I had the time, inclination, and manual dexterity to really get into some DIY on the HSG - I know that it would save me scads of cash, too!
Seeing that strut brace - I may be looking you up later regarding DIY on putting one in the rear - apparently it makes a serious difference and so would be worth the effort.

As a matter of fact, I am interested in installing a set of the Pedders springs, but need to find a way to purchase them there and get them shipped here. I'm working with Dan on the shocks - we'll see how that comes out and then hopefully move on to the springs from there.
Sweet picture in your other post by the way - which is whose? Makes it more difficult to decide on new wheels, as they both look really good on the RVR.

I would suggest a set of Japanese springs myself, once Konix has a set of the Pink JIC springs here, I'll be keen to see how they are, from there I'll make my purchase!

well....just got the email back from my importer..cusco strut braces and pillowball mounts sent air mail, jic springs sent sea mail...fml seriously..the strut braces will be here friday but i have upto 6 week wait for springs

I just got an email reply from a fellow named Mark at Cobra Springs in NZ, regarding their springs for the RVR, mentioned earlier in this thread. I will post the pertinent porion here in order to ask your opinions:
"We have the part numbers you are enquiring about available ex stock, the
only concern I have about supplying is that I am not certain that the
model you have will be the same in specifications as the New Zealand
models.
We have found problems before with this where our springs have not
fitted overseas models, or the ride heights of the vehicles have been
different, and it would be a costly exercise to try and resolve this for
you in Chile."
My Hyper Sports Gear is a direct import from Japan, so it should be straight JDM as far as parts go. Do any of you think that his concerns are valid regarding the size/fitment they have as possibly not working for my Hyper?

If its stock, it should be fine yes... the thing I would be looking at is finding out how high or how low his springs will sit you..
Did you give mark all the details he required? I.e. Make model year and chassis number. It sounds like he is confused as to what type of car you have. You didn't compare you rvr to something else didmyou?

I gave him everything except the chassis number (which I will be forwarding him when I get back to him).
Matt's observation about ride height is pertinent, as I simply ASSumed that they would ride lower - you may have the answer however (which I would like to confirm before I email Mark again).
Before I go making an ass out of myself again, you DID get the Cobra springs mentioned previously in this thread, right? If so, I am obviously very interested to know how you go with them on your RVR, ride height, performance, facility of install, etc., as I found the price Mark quoted me (NZ$400) to be very reasonable for "performance" springs.

I'm sure I mentioned cobra springs in this thread, but I'm sure I mentioned I was getting custom springs too? The springs I have purchased are raised 40mm above standard. I won't be able to post result until my new shocks arrive and I have installed them, which wont be a for a couple of weeks yet.
