id get an ae82 twin cam rolla. Cheap dedicated track car to maintain, and is an awsome hillclimb car.

Would be just as much fun as an evo (my personal opinion) and would cost a SHIT LOAD cheaper too! Plus you still learn the racing 'fundamentals' which is the whole purpose of the exersize.

EDIT: Libz read my mind!

couldnt agree more on this one - the fwd corolla is a great place to start, many parts avail if you stack it & lots of potential.

I used an ae82 fxgt in club racing in NZ and performed very competitively.
even with vtec civic's
the corolla was stock with a cage & good pads, most people were suprises at how quick it was and were looking under the bonnet asking what we'd done to the motor..... NOTHING!
in only two events, one at Taupo Raceway, 2nd in class and 8th or 10th overall and a hillclimb 5th overall behing targa setup is200, evo, legacy/libery etc

coz we drove it balls out and didnt care so much if it got stacked; which it did eventually haha

track car

Hey I brought a VR-4 as a dedicated track car.

check this site out champ!
http://www.grahamberry2.co.jp/stock.html

I would go with what you know! you know 4G's and you may have spares there to work with. You know the most of the car inside and out and have contacts to source parts and you most prolly know how they drive as well.

My 2c stay with what you know and like and get yourself a trailer to take the car to the track! Which I will see you on in the near future I hope!

wow that site has a couple of e3's with sunroof. is it hard to buy form them...? or all you need to do is find an importer..?

corollas are cool.. my bro has a ae92 hatch with the 20v 4AGE in it, and it's very zippy through the twisties.. also sounds mean once it's opened up!

pretty sure that grahem berry mob has an aussie import they use. i have seen evos from them before and linked off of a aust site to that one.

to import for race use is different also, not sure if chefie or j-spec do race use
if someone is serous about getting a race use only import send me a PM.

yeah cool, just wasnt sure, you have to have a higher level cams licence to import them,. but only an s2 to buy here.

Whatever you choose I would sort the handling before you look at power. If you can find a car already set up in that department I'd go for that, maybe even an unfinished project, unregoe'd but with plenty of fruit already on it. You would be surprised on the bargains you can pick up when someone gives up :p. When you find yourself drivivng the wheels off it then upgrade the power, you will be better driver for it.

Theory is sound, I'd go with a Honda rather than a Toyota though, either an EG Civic or a DC Integra with a B18C engine - with a good suspension setup and semi-slicks it'll be about as quick as a 250kW evo at most tracks thanks to weighing f-all and it'll go forever.

thats pretty much my line of thinking ... going off the absolute raping my last 2 EJ8s have copped day in day out

I have to admit if the decision was based on keeping costs down, and having lots of cheap aftermarket & original replacement parts available, a Sylvia / 180 would be pretty hard to go past.

funly enough s13's are real cheap to setup, i get heaps of people through work doing them for hill climbs and drift and so on, and you still have to spend the coil on them. heres a diff one a guy i have been talking to is now doing, toyota starlet ep91, aust model for 3500 but good cond. half cut for 1650 for turbo gt model. then all ya need is better brakes and suspension. they can go hard very easy.

i had a run today in an s13, the basic balance of the cars are pretty good and would make a good track car for sure. we may look at doing some more to the car to get it really moving.
power isnt to hard to get out of them in sr20turbo form and the suspension configuration is good from the factory. get the weight out and some good brakes(which we had issues with today, even with skyline rotors and 4 pot calipers) and you have a decent package which is good fun to drive too.
the car we ran today had 230rwkw (wound down from 300+ on 19psi)on 12psi and was pretty quick on the straights.

Hmmmmm all of this sounds so damn good. I like the idea of a second crappy car for the track. I like the honda/toyota idea.

someone should by my ex lancer and build it for track. super light thing would go made with rwd convert 4g63t twin camer.
