That better Dean??

WTF! Why are you putting the air flow meter in the direct air stream? Are you planning on filtering the air at all??
Otherwise looks like a good design.

Was just planning on making a small frame that will sit just infront of the afm to support some flyscreen.

Its for track only worst thing i could worry about is a bug or random leaf blowing in the wind, so im not all that concerned.

the worst case is dust that will go straight through flyscreen,
you really need a proper filter infront of it marc to be safe.

it will also be interesting to see if the extra air trips out the afm too.

good work anyway mate

Marc, first up 10 points for walking the walk and actually doing it. A budget filter is a stocking and a rubber band over the afm. This only needs to filter for when you do a short trip down the strip :)

I reckon its best to get cool air in 100% of the time even on the street. A pod enclosed in a 2-sided CAI airbox + lid behind the headlight is the way to go. Still gets cool air flowing in from the street and on race days remove the headlight and you have cold air flowing direct to the pod.

I'm keen to see what it does to the airflow meter. I reckon you'll run into issues with it 'tripping' out at max airflow.

Two thumbs up for getting stuck into it and doing what looks like a great job.

You mean like my previous one i made up that even sealed to the underside of the bonnet ;)

Thats actually a pretty valid point you make there, it may actually flow a shitload more than it previously ever did...considering there is no piping or great filter restrictions in front of it. It will all come down to your fuel system and tune etc...
Having said that, if you dont hit boost cut and have enough fuel , who cares! go all out.

Good work on the custom work mate.

By the way, that sealed pod assemby (in the pics) you made marc looks a million bucks, good work. I respect someone who takes the time to make something thats worth waiting for.BTW is that a 609 AFM ?

Well i havent had any dramas that i have noticed the last two times ive been out i ran without a filter with the headlight out, but who knows being right at the front i guess.

Its a 055 AFM JAP63.

Yeah Marc, exactly like your pics above. It secludes the pod from warmer under bonnet temperatures and it still gets plenty of cool air through the headlight and wheel arch. Then people can remove the headlight if they wish for runs. Something like your headlight intake is great for massive turbo inlets on drag cars where ECU's run MAP sensors.

Won't matter if you have a tonne of fuel, the problem will be with the airflow meter shitting itself because it can't register the increased volume of air flowing through it.
