hey guys

For those of you that know my car when sroy owned it you might have a better idea of what turbo it is. He told me it was hi flowed with bigger internal stuff and it was done by atp. The turbo has td50h on it is this a 14g 16g or 16g big?

My question is i am now looking at gettin more power and this turbo is starting to get a bit of shaft play but it doesnt blow a bit of smoke

now

Am i better of getting a new turbo on custom manifold maybe a gt or something ?

get this on i have now rebiult with a 20g compressor fan and tricked up some more if thats possible ?

keep in mind i want this car for street use and i will probly not run it down the strip much

i would also like a turbo that is quite resposive and has good power from like 2500 rpm to like 7000rpm \

i dont often rev my car past 5 if that gives you a good indication of how i drive

the turbo thats in it now is a bit laggy and hits low boost (2 or 3psi) at like 3000rpm and hits full boost (18-20psi) at 5000ish but by that stage its a bit hard to watch the tacho

also is this boost realy bad for the turbo(the engine internals should be ok they are forged) and is it possible for it to hit this boost and not be doing much like it will hit 15 or top boost and the boost doesnt feel that strong or am i just getting used to it

in othere words
with a different or better turbo would the boost feel stronger

Thank you for any help you can give and i am sorry if the post is hard to understand or a bit long i am just trying to explain every angle.

hmmm well i dont know if its 5 or 4 now coz when that sucktion noise starts i just hold on lol
but if it realy is aroubd the 5 mark would it be that the turbo is shagged or thAT there is a pre turbo exhause leak (how would i be able to tell if i did) and does anyone know what burbo that is is it a 16g big or just a 16g

my big 16g hits fullboost(15psi) at 3,500
so either you have a much bigger turbo, its fucked, or theres an exhaust leak

well its got tdo5h printed on it and i carnt seem to hear any exhaust leacks so it must be half fucked

dont get me wrong this car phucken hooks

it hasnt been down the quatter for a while but it destroys new and modded rexex new 6l hsvs xr6t xr8s and gtps its a animal but i have noticed that it is staring get a lil bit sloppy and not as punchy but hey i could be just getting used to it lol

but i still want to do something with the turbo so what should i do guys and how much should i be paying

on my way to work 2morrow i wil see exactly what rpm its hitting full psi

so we can diagnose correctly

also is there anyway to quiten down the tappets

there not to bad and only happen when car is realy cold in the moring when i start it first thing

could i run a thicker oil
i am running 5w40w full senthetic motul

what do you guys think

take the air intake off and take a photo of the compressor cover on the turbo, it should have a whole lot of numbers on it, that way we should be able to work out which compressor housing it is, also take a photo of the compressor wheel. does the exhaust housing have 060 or 070 stamped on it? have a look near the dump pipe.

as for new turbos, check out slowboyracing.com in the USA. they have a lot of Ball-bearing turbos that will bolt onto the stock manifold and dump pipe so you won't have to change all that stuff.

ok well i check the rpm vs boost today properly it hit 16psi at 4000rpm in 4th gear so what ever that means

i will take the photos on saturday and post them up

i dont even kn ow what the dump pipe is i guess i willl have to take the exaust manifold gauge thing off lol

i was thinking of getting a extractor sor of manifold or whatever they are

you know how the turbo kinda has two sides? one is silver, the other is a brownish colour, the dump pipe is the pipe that comes off the brownish coloured bit. it should have either "070" or "060" stamped on the turbo.
you might have to take the heat shield off your manifold to see it.

Reason being is that the 5-40w is too thin, try 10-50w as it's not a new engine, only run 0 or 5w on a new engine cause all the machining is just that good on a new engine & doesn't need a thick oil.

I run (And was recomended from the EVO Guru on a EVO III 4G63) to run a 10-50, Dont get a oil with a high weight range (Like 5-60) cause there is more room for chemical break down under very high heat & Stress, try a more stable oil (10-50) with only a differance of 40w & not say 55 in the 5-60, the reason why they have a oil with a huge weight differance is if you only run races & you change it atleast 3 times in the 5000klm, again all delending on what your doing with your car. :)

Well i took the car down to maztech (my tunner of choice). And we figured out in the first 10 seconds that my bov was stuck open lol so that is a decent problem lol so they are going to test for vac leaks and othere stuff like that.
so with any luck it will haul ass even better considering i axed a 06sti in it the other day down the freeway.

time will tell

Well \\
I got my car back today from mazech(i saw a drkgreen gsr/evo? 1 2 3 at protech) made a extra 20kws atws on 8psi less 8) so that is good hey lol
my bov was not connected from the vac line or something like that, now my bov is fuuucked lol so i will have to get a new one which isnt to bad i guess. Car is running great but when the bov goes of lol it sounds a bit odd as i have alllot of chuuchuuchuu(before everyone says its not comp surge) and now it goes chuuuchuuuchuuushiiichii or something lol still works i guess but i will be getting a new one soon.

anyone know what sort of bov i sould get
the one i have is a turbosmart type 2 from memory

what type of flange do you have on the cooler piping or is it just a universal fitting?
I have a GFB blow off valve, couldn't be happier with it :)
I've got the stealth FX where you can vent either plumb back or to the atmosphere, very easily adjusted aswell, don't need tools or anything.

hmm how much do u think i can get one for a guess a couple of hunded bucks or there abouts

matress i have no idea what fitting it is because it is in a very hard to reach place and to even chnge it over i would have to remove the front bar which is a prick of a job as you guys would know

i was also wondering if it was possinle to change the sound when it blows of from say chuuchuuchuuu to a woosh or pppchuuuu
i have been told that the sounds is a mix of the ecu pod and turbo and that the bov has nothing t do with it, is this correct? but all in all i am happy that it is running heaps better now for a bigger turbz

just out of curiosity jow awkws do you have mat

Wrong!
Any noise like what you described or if your not running a BOV (Or if it's rooted) the air wil be slammed against your turbo compressor wheel at VERY high speed and great force causing "That cool noise"
I had a friend that didn't run a BOV cause he liked the sound so much......a few weeks later he was up for a new turbo, he opted for a rebuild.
The bearings were badly worn (Had big wheel play) out cause of the force acting apon the comp wheel.
Not a good idea.
The best noise to hear is the Ppssssstttt air sound.

so how do i get that noise pshhh

i dont know if you are right as i have had this noise as long as i have had the car and my turbo has a bit of shaft play but from what you are saying my turbo would have been cactus by now about 1year give or take but by all means tell me how i am to get ride of this chuuchuuchuuu as it may sound cool but does get annoying and atraks alot of atension

i have a Turbo smart Vee port bov and it still flutters..only when i give it half throttle though..its not the "vl turbo" flutter its more of a tu tu tu..its really quick..but as soon as i put the new bov on it felt heaps better..it would release the presure heaps quicker..worth buying not for the sound but the performance
