So the other day I was out shopping for some bolts, i get back in the car, turn it on, depress the clutch (all the way) and try to put it into reverse, there's a horrible sounding metal crunching noise, but it goes in and stays in. Except when lifting off the clutch in either reverse or first (ie, starting to move the car from a stop) now there's this rattling sound, it's a bit like there are nuts bouncing around on the inside of the gearbox... Heck, I thought I broke a tooth off reverse but I doubt that's the case considering it's still 100% driveable. Checked for rattling head shields and dodgy CV joints, nope, and everything inside the bell housing was torqued down according to specifications, so there shouldn't be any bolts that hold the pressure plate to the flywheel rolling around in there, but it's a bit hard to check . I'm at a bit of a loss to what it is, any suggestions?
In case you were wondering why it didn't go into reverse properly I think it's because the Clutch master cylinder is on the way out and will need to be replaced soon.

Im guessing a spring has come out of the clutch disc and is in between the fingers of the pressure plate which is why its hard to get inyo gear......excedy clutch in the car by any chance??

+1
It'll be the two steal end caps from a disintegrated rubber damper, or a spring.

Must be a spring then, the rubber dampers looked fine when we had the clutch out. Weird it's done that, the clutch is only 15k km's old, and i don't abuse the clutch/drop it. It's just an OEM replacement from Supercheap, not exedy though.

EDIT: Turns out I'm thinking of the clutch we pulled out of the original engine  , the replacement one only had springs, and they looked like this

That's what this one was.

Because there's performance, and then there's make-believe performance.

If you want a real performance clutch, you need to spend $1000+ on a kit.

I didn't.

New symptom. When it comes on boost theres an audible dud dud dud. Like rolling over a rumble strip. Does not accelerate, probably clutch slipping. Will definitely be having a good look at it tonight

So why did that one have rubber and springs? I thought performance clutches were springs only :D
Will have to try and have a look sometime this week
performance ones have no springs ;)

Lol. Thats another common problem. Check to see your firewall isnt cracked while its out to.
in the corners near the washer bottle and on the other side in the same spot? It's cracked on one side, has been since i got it. Strut brace probably helped stop the other side cracking (either that, or it does nothing)

So, we all agree the clutch is proper fu***d?
