Correction on the amount / qualify figures:
"Workers earning up to $80,000 a year can expect a handout of $950, those on a salary of $80,000 to $90,000 will receive a $650, and $300 will be awarded to people earning between $90,000 and $100,000. Those on incomes above $100,000 will not receive a bonus."

its releasing billions into the economy, (as long as everyone spends it,)
its an attempt to try and resurrect the downfall in the economy, and if anything is a great idea.
Its also planning ahead as the other 3/4 of the budget caters for schools, infrastructure, hospitals and the like.
On a worldwide scale, Australia is statistically handling the downturn in the economy greater than most other countries, and its thanks to the government who are making sure this is the case.

You also have to have lodged you 2008 Tax Return by 30 June 2009.

I asked my cousin who's an auditor for the ATO and she said "The Tax Office will use people's 2007-08 income tax return to
work out how much they are entitled to and send the money to them using
the payment method they preferred for that return."

The payments will be made around the beginning of April this year, but you will only receive this payment provided you have lodged your 2007/2008 Tax Return.
Thats directly from the ATO.
