I'm not sure anyone 9not even Turnbull and co) disagree in principle to stimulus (or is that stimuli packages- what is in question is whether this is the right amount and whether it's going to be spent on the right things that have the desired effect.
Ludicrous for labour to give wider parliament the proposal at midday and say you need to sign off on this right now (effectively.)
Personal view, it's random and panic. And it's a final throw of the dice. We have to be realistic and that is we are tied to the global economy...if we spend this money, and international events impact us negatively (as i am sure they are/will) - we are not only spent out, but have nothing left in the tank.
Just chucking money at the problem is not going to solve it.
However they've been pinning for months now....it's really all about confidence at the consumer level and hoping retailers and manufacturers etc (well, whats left of them) can keep going...
Someone said reduce the superannation rate in the earlier thread - my view is that it could never happen...seen what happens in most other countries? There is very little govt super/pension - the government need to reduce their liability to support aging populations...reducing the rate, increases their exposure to support the elderly. so make it someone elses problem - like employers. 9% isn't enough anyway to secure a comfy retirement - no way.
Totally agree though, banks and super funds are totally irresponsible - but what else can the govt do (in fairness) -Turnbull says you can't support their profits...but what can you do ? you can't let them go to the wall - that will cause the whole thing to collapse.
Very very interesting times. Personal view, if we were NOT to go into recession, should not have slowly killed local manufacturing and primary production. Aus cannot self sustain right now and are very dependany on imports/export.
I for one, have no confidence in being in my job in 3 months. Sorry - just the way i see it and i've been planning for it for 6 months now.
Still, I've got Tonka, expecting some new bits in the popst any day now, hopefully getting GSR bars, new wheels and springs. Then who knows...MORE POWER! so theres always something to smile about.
