wheel fitment

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

Bit off topic, Ive got a 17x9 +20 (off a r32 gtr) dummy fitted on mine at the momment that I borrowed from a friend.

On the front it with about 3 degrees of camber and coilivers it looks like the tyre fits under the guard. (streched 215x45 R17 however thats bit of to much strech for my likeing) I dont know how it would go with with a 225 or 235. (i also had evo 4 front hubs and front lower control arms if it helps?)

Ive also test fitted and bolted that same wheels onto the rear trailing arm to see how far it clears the inside of the trailing arm and rimface however was cut short . The wheel was bucked and when spinning it, it touched the trailing arm. Im not sure if the high spot or the low spot was were it was ment to be. but i concluded that its a sparrows fart distance between the trailing arm and the inside rimface.I'd have to retry it with a stright rim and new wheels bearings to see if it actually touched or not.

Ive bolted it on the car and with coilovers and adjustible top arms that were screwed all the way in with the streched 215 it still sits like an inch outside the rear guards. Looks like you would have to do some serious rolling/streching/ fabricating new rear guards to get them fitting properly. I person think that its probally to much strech with an awd car or track car.

However below is one I love from NZ with a bit of guard work and wide wheels. Its RWD as well. I think from memory they may even be 9.5 inches wide?

why would you bother with a 9 inch wide rim to only run a 7inch wide tyre. i don't get all these people chasing epic dish and running stupid offsets give me a rim that fits properly anyday

I tend to agree with you, a lil stretch can look good, and I don't mind dish but when you go so far the get mad dish and stretch that the car is hardly drivable I don't understand, that was the whole reason for this thread because I didn't want the grids in 9s so I could have sick poke and hektic stretch, but after saying all that the car above does look pretty cool lol.

I have a guard roller and flared the guards out like that on the back of my glxi, the lip came out ok but the metal that stretched out to make the lip distorted the quarter above and theres a spot that would randomly pop in and out -_- I don't wanna wreck another shell haha

That's a handy bit of info there Jake, thanks for that :)

My mate had a s13 with volk te37 style wheels that he kept when he sold the car so I will try them on for size some time :). What are your opinions on white on white?

I think the originally post was if a set of 17x9 +25 rota grids would fit on a gsr, It would depend on what you call "fit"........everyone has a different interpretation of it, function or form would probably better describe it. I don't mind a bit of stretch on a tyre but id agree that 215's on a 9 would put a lot so stress on side walls and chew out tyres.

I think the best way is how Dougmo has done it, fat wheels sticky tyres and big custom guards, Myself personally like black wheels on white cars, however don't mind a strong standing out colour to define the wheel. eg seen a few white drift and time attach machines with fluro wheels and I think it looks cool . I guess theirs no harm in trying on other wheels, after all individuality defines one human being from another. Id be interested to see how they would look on the gsr, :)

My 17x8's rub on the inner guard at the front on full lock, however I would look into running a slightly different offset on the front if I was to get new wheels as there is heaps of room under the outside of the front guards so the front wheels could sit out a bit further

I test fitted an Evo 7 wheel last night which I think is a 17*8.5 offset im not sure maybe +35/30? but someone on here will know, it has a 235/45/17 RSR on it' anyway flies on the front but could do with a spacer, the rear fits there is maybe 2mm to trailing arm an sticks out from the body maybe 5-8mm so with some guard work im sure you could squeeze it in.

Here is a couple of pics I took

I'll let you know once I get my black rims sandblasted and painted Fluro green!! I love the look to... Very time attack totally agree. I've seen 19x10 rota grids in Fluro green on a white r34 gtr and they looked cool imo

Ive got a evo 7 wheels believe there 17x8 +38? I'm the same never used but there just sitting on the car atm and the work with a fedral RSR 215x45 17 still look a bit balloony but wouldn't be to hard to fit. Pretty sure they are dam close to the trailing arm, I had a 5mm spacer and they would still fit under the guards if they were rolled

You'll diffidently should have to post up a pic of them when you have them back

Remember that if you are doing all this work for semi slicks or slicks that they are larger than a normal tyre. In my case I can't fit a 225 semi slick on my car but I can fit a road tyre. This is also due to the stiffer sidewalls. Below are Dunlop slick widths for a 215 and 225. About 5mm more.
17 215/45R17 220 626 7.0 - 8.5 17 225/45R17 230 631 7.0 - 9.0

My 215 is also stretched a little bit as i t should be a on 7 inch rim not a 7.5 and that is a EVO V rim that I am running.

I have a set of enkei tarmac 17x8.5 +35 with 215/45 tyres on them. They fit... Mostly LOL... The fronts scrub on the guards when turning hard (this may be to do with my busted swaybar)... And the backs scrub (guards just need rolling)
Oh and I'm just running standard camber

Oh and this is on my gsr with evo guards my
