hey guys i boke another rear axel AGAIN! i want to make it fwd for now as i need my car for work i was told there is a lever or a bolt or sumfin on the gearbo that u turn or something to make it fwd all info needed i need to drive it tomorrow please need help.

only some came out with levers on the transfercase and the gearbox

if not, u cant do it.. u will need a VISCOUS COUPLING ELIMINATOR..they are sold by slowboyracing / TRE etc etc...

my old vr4 had the switchable gearbox and out of interest i switched it to fwd and the gearbox blew a few days after i did it,i was told from ralliartNZ that it was an option for rally cars to use as a limp home mode incase of rear axel breakages so i wouldnt reccomend driving it like that for too long-mine may have been ready to blow anyway but get further advice before doing it

you also need the switchable xfer case buddy..
u have to lock the centre diff and then disable drive to the tailshaft...

The only cars with the switches were 87-88 model's. Everything after that is perm AWD. Unfortunately, you're goin to have to go get a vce and wait for it to arrive and install it, etc.

Probably faster to source another driveshaft. Try CVAP, www.cvap.com.au.

In relation to your original question, how many have you broken, how were you driving when they broke and which axles are you breaking?

And what gearbox and diff do you have in the car (KM255, W5M33, 3 bolt or 4 bolt)?

axels

i have broken both reax axels in the past 2 months ist one was a decent launch and this one was axeleration on to the highway in 2nd:S heard a bang and then it was same symptoms as last time.

And, where abouts on the drive shaft are they breaking?

What sort of power are your putting out?

Do you have any odd tyres (eg 3 dunlops and 1 who flung dung rubber company one)?

axels

yeh i got 3 the same and 1 different on the rear and its got a std 3 bolt that vr4s come with. so could the different tyres cause something with the dif and axels. they twist off inside the diff.

Measure the circumference of each of the rear tyres, if they are the same, then no problems, if they are different, it wouldn't be helping it.

axels

i do everything on my car myself, i did the last axel and it was sweet after that so ill do this one to. another thing is both times i had bad axel tramp when slowing down and big vibrations from the rear before they broke like for say 2 months there was axel tramp proir to the breakage.

the 195 60 R15 might be the same on every tyre but the tred wear on each tyre must be the same or the diameter of each of the tyres change. constant 4WD cars must have the same tyres all round (or at least the fronts are the same and the rear are the same) for the 4WD system to work properly. you start mixing and matching things and system puts too much stress on some points rather then having a 50/50 split in power too all tyres. i would probly find a pair of 195 60 R15 with matching tred and shove them on the rears after you have changes the axel then take it from there.......
