WooHOOO!!! got the car running again! and then bang!!

hey guys..

WHAT A NIGHT!!

i finally got the car running again with the turbo and all after inspecting the bearings etc..

got the exhaust all bolted up once again and also the i/c piping..
just finished a hard day at the workshop (11am to 6pm)... vr4's all day! from dre's doner vr4 to dre's ovr4u...

it was getting to the end of the day, i decided to finish my car since i had it booked for a tune during the week... fired the thing up and no battery.. (DAMMIT!!!), jumped started it with the amg and fired it up and it roared to life!!... getting the shakes i jump in and back her out... once again running in FWD mode, i slip the clutch and chirp, it spins the wheels more than usual and i take off!..

i ease her into 2nd wheelspin, 3rd then slow down...
checking the oil pressure, fuel pressure, oil temp, water temp and boost.. everything seems good!
egt is low so i give it a bit, it goes up and drops down again (running rich)

water pump seems to be working fine, radiator is doing its thing.. great! nothing beats a reliable car!...

she's now ready to go back to the workshop and wait for the tuning day...

i then do a u-turn and BANG!!!!!!!!... WTF WAS THAT???
i put it in N, take a look under the car, all is good.. no smoke, engine purring like normal... jump back in and chuck it into 1st, grinding noise........ 2nd?... grinding noise... OH NO!!.. gearbox????.. did i kill it???

i shut her down and check out the drive shafts and xfer case spline... its all good.. check the shifter arms.. fine..

start her up again and put her in gear.. same shit!.. farkkkkkkkkkkkkkk...
not now!!!!!!!..... I'm nearly done!!.. CMON!!!!

i end up pushing her for about 300 metre's uphill and then 100metres down.. get her back to the workshop and i have a feeling its the clutch...

its only 1500km's old and its dead???

4puck ceramic custom clutch died on me...

i'll find out how bad it is tommorrow...

oh well, its all part of the game!
its not only me having issues though, my mate with a dc2 spent the whole day bleeding his brakes only to come to a conclusion that the break master cylinder he bought to replace his stuffed up one was also stuffed!!

well it looks like i have another 5 hours to pull this box off and replace the clutch...

anybody else ever have these issues with their car?
anybody want to donate a clutch?

same thing happens with me too. Fix one problem ie gearbox, and then another problem comes up. Dont know if its just me or if I bought a dud car

Baz the box in Dre's vr4 changes gears very well & the clutch was ok.
The transfer has the jap steel section & shaft also. Just a thought.

was it making a rattly noise before it happened? if it didnt then i doubt its the clutch cos the ones paul makes are held on by 32 bolts! the only thing u could of done was to break it in 2.. but i doubt that if u havent been racing it..

my guess is that you have done a gearbox!

but as soon as i try to engage, the car moves only slightly and a grinding noise comes on...

before it stuffed up, the clutch was sorta shuttering

its only done 1500km's and with only fwd and mainly n/a...

i might go for an exedy 3 puck or something after this

You dealt with Paul! You call him. I had an excedy 3 puk.. and now its dead.. i stuck one of paul's custom in my car. Normally when a clutch is shuttering it was installed in correctly, you can tell this when the clutch comes out. Also if you want to make over 300AWKW.. dont mess around with singles.. you need a twin plate clutch and i told you that from the start!!!!!

I highly doubt its the clutch, no clutch dies at 1500km.. unless its installed incorrectly or something along those lines.. As i said give him a call and see, its got nothing to do with me besides the fact that i got it a cheaper price for you cos you know me!

yer alex the clutch is goin heaps good mate. so good to drive it after having to walk everywhere for a month . the old clutch is an exceedy full face that lost one of the coil springies, which in turn cause crack's through the whole clutch disk . thank you again alex for ya help,

I had one in my EVO lancer.. ran about 30 x 12 sec passes and then it started to slip.. ive replaced it now!!!

Single isnt the answer for you Baz.. get a twin and be done with it.. dont be pussy footing around with singles.. you will break more then what its worth to buy a twin plate.. twin plates are around $1400

well the only thing that i remember doing before this was launching it a few times in AWD mode... whoops..

but it seemed fine though!
left 4 black marks on the road though (no idea what it was.. lol)

i am personally hoping for it to be a clutch because that would be the cheapest fix... finger crossed!

anybody want to give me a hand pulling out the box during the week?
