Would this timing belt from the US work on a EVO 1,2 or 3 motor or even VR4 4g63? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-9...m14QQhashZitem270265898918QQitemZ270265898918

And would stuff from Eclipse,Talon and what ever has the 4g63 in the US fit in evo/galant in AUS like cams, cam gears, clutchs, flywheels and gasket sets?

Dose anyone know where i can find this stuff out? Cos i dont want to buy stuff and find out it wont fit.

Cheers

Yeah it will fit, BUT the number one rule to remember =
* 1G is 6 bolt Galant VR4 engine
* 2G is the 7 bolt EVO engine

Anything Galant, Talon, Laser and Eclipse 1988-1992 is usually the 6 bolt engine. Its always best to ask whether things are 1G or 2G and confirm by the number of bolts on the crank/flywheel tjust to be sure :D

Timing belt, tensioners and water pump....pretty much the most important things needed for an engine and you want to skimp out....A Gates timing belt kit is like $200 and a water pump is another $100 for an Aisin.

Seriously man, bite the bullet and buy some quality stuff.

Yeah i wasnt going to get it,it was more of an example.

So are the timing belts, cams, cam gears, water/oil pumps and so on different from 1g to 2g and would a clutch kit for a 1g go on a 2g and vice versa?

I have a VR4 with what im told is a EVO 3 4g63

Thanks guys you are helping alot here:D

P.S. Are the 2g(EVO 1-3) motor in any cars in the US?

Timing belts, cam gears, clutch kits are the same for 1G VR4 6 bolt and 2G EVO 7 bolt. However the water pumps are different!

Take heed in what the boys say as I've used Gates T167 timing belt kit on my car and have also used Dayco belts on other rebuilds. I wouldnt use a no-name brand for a timing belt and pulleys/tensioners thats for sure. Come to think of it I'm not gonna use Dayco either anymore as I found the last couple I did stretched with a bit of play not long after engine wear in, and I know I installed them properly. I'm going to stick with Gates from here on in. The EVO 1-3 engine is not in any US cars at all as the US made their own 7 bolt version of the 4G63 in the 2G Eclipses. Its a very close clone to the Japspec EVO 1-3 engine.

Buy the right stuff for your engine locally from places with experience such as Meek etc if possible as sometimes saving a few bucks buying overseas can lead to problems especially if you order the wrong bits in or find the quality sucks ass once it turns up to your doorstep.

Thanks dude helped alot. From my understanding i have a evo 3 4g63 in my vr4 and im wanting to make well over 200kw atw maybe 250kw what clutch do you think, its street/track car. Was thinking Exedy Heavy Duty Button Kit or Xtreme DCB Heavy duty clutch kit or there XC Xtra heavy duty clutch kit what do you think?
Will the Evo 3 flywheel still be ok to use after a machining of course?
What do you guys have in the way of clutchs?

Easy way to tell if there is an Evo engine in your VR4 ( unlikely ) Where is the front engine mount located ( the one between the motor and the radiator )? Is the mount bolted to the engine or the gearbox?

Don't forget, you get what you pay for!
It's your motor but I would not touch that kit with a 10 foot pole!

Agreed 100% ;)

There are some things you can buy cheaper versions but keep away from elcheapo parts on your critical's. ;)

Quality does sometimes = a bit more $ but always look at it as an investment :D

Reliability doesn't come from using cheaply made parts full stop.
