So i have put my deposit in this nice looking satria gsr turbo and have the option of having it engineered with the gsr engine and over pits with report...

Basically i pick it up early next week but i have the option of the dealer getting the car a engineers report for it and having it passed over the pits for an for an extra $1500 bucks do you guys reckon this is worth while it was a pro conversion done by cypher industies in perth in 2001 but i am just curious that if i get the $1500 knocked off it might come back to haunt me, but on the other hand i maynever geta yellow sticker and if i do it wil cost less than $1500 to put it all right??

What are your thoughts on this??

Cheers in advance Gerry.

If its a legit engineers report id be making them do it, if there is something wrong with it they can do something about it while its still in there

It looks like it's got the 2.0 litre 4G63T in it - that may raise some eyebrows if that body style has never been certified to carry that engine. It'd be a cake walk if it had the 4G93T in it.

welcome gerry

my engineer for a wrx powered brumby was $400. you will prob need a emmisions test if the exhaust isnt standard, plus a cat converter if there isnt one there, a noise test for the cannon, a pillar guages have to go. catch can cant be vented to atmosphere. pretty easy to burn $1500 if you gotta pay someone else to do it.

as enginr says if its a 63 may have trouble.

looking at this mod list, and the fact it was most powerful FWD three years running, tells me it will have trouble with the emmisions test. i would let them engineer it, or run the risk of driving it without. no point bothering with full cover insurance though.

if you drive around friday and sat nights with the stereo cranked you will get pulled and stickered for sure.
if you drive to work and back and stay at home at weekends, you prob be ok.

nice ride though, awesome in fact. i love the bonnet too. let me come check it out in person once you got it sorted. sweet

Those gti turbo plates may attract some cop attention to if your cruising around , last thing you need is a yellow sticker on that car . you should look at some sprints and motorkhanas in perth rather than just shopping and work driving ,its alot of car not to be able to drive hard and use its full potential you will have more fun and no worries about cops chasing you.

Id take the plates off, put them in storage and put boring normal ones on if you want to not be bothered by the cops, as its catches the eye of a cop that bored or sees you come around a corner a bit quick.
If you want attention from other cars give it a rev or go out on car cruises, and lay low while your daily driving.

I would have gone for the engineers option......you may not get insurance in the event of an accident.

You will be able to pass engineering with the 4G63T in it, you might need to just put a stock muffler on and get it detuned a little to help with the emissions. It's probably worth while getting it done for peace of mind and just knowing you've done everything properly. I've got my turbo conversion fully engineered and insured, best thing I've ever done.

I've just gone through Shannons for my accident, and I can honestly say it was the worst experience I've ever had. I was treated like a criminal through the whole process and it ended up taking them 3 months to finally get my money to me. That was after unlawfully writing the car off, having to get the RTA to reverse the write off, then trying to claim excess when it wasn't my fault and the list goes on.

I'd try Justcar and see what they can do, Shannons will take you for a ride and I'd question the intellect of some of their employees.

Intersting!! see i aint took the policy out with shannons yet due to my current policy running til june. although they have said the quote is good for 12months...

Have you a number for justcar??

Only thing i am worried about is the fuel swirl pot in the engien bay and the breather can and bov although the last 2 asre easy fixes its the fuel one that may not be oh and the coilovers give a fairly harsh ride....

thats not good to hear that about shannons but i rang just car and they were a joke , i was talking to a girl with no idea about cars as mine has a roll cage and rally computer etc it took ages just to get her to understand about my car and what it had, i rang shannons and the guy knew everything my car had no problem. i guess everyone has different bad and good experiences, justcar number is in the phone book

I would have gone the engineer's report for $1500 provided its done legit and thoroughly.
You try organise an emissions test and report in WA (I hear its difficult and costly), exhaust noise test, brake test, hoist inspection and engineer inspection.
The ECU and turbo boost controller (Apexi AVCR) is a cop magnet where it sits. It allows the changing of the ECU & boost levels within driver reach and it effects emissions. ECU's are allowable under the ADR's provided the driver s locked out (password protected) from changing the settings and an emissons test and report have been carried out to prove it still complies to ADR 37/01 for that year model.
The oil catch can is venting into the atmosphere which contradicts ADR's and Emissions laws and an instant defect. The only place air goes in for a car should be the air filter and the only place it exits should be out the back of the muffler. All the in-between stuff has to be plumbed back into the system including Bovs, catch cans and wastegates.
The A-pillar gauges are also non compliant to the ADRs and defectable. A ball with 160mm diameter will hit them no problem (ball test signifies adult head impact in the event of accident)
A 'dealer' should not be selling a modified car like that to start with, its against the law for them to do it unless it is engineer certified with backup evidence.
If they were to get an engineer report then I would request one which addresses each modification and how it complies to the ADR it falls under, the emissions report, the exhaust noise report, the braking report at speeds from 100kmh, and a drive-by noise test report as the induction noise obviously has increased more than the standard induction noise. The certificate should also list the brake upgrades and any suspension upgrades.
Satria GTi's are piss easy to engineer with bigger wheels because they came with 16" standard.
The 2 litre turbo conversion will also be easy to have engineered due to it being 1800 DOHC EFI standard. The brake upgrade to EVO twin pot calipers would be required obviously to comply with having brakes equal or better than the car that the engine was out of.
The conversion itself looks great, neat and the person obviously took pride in the work. The intercooler behind the front bar is done well.
I'd have asked what you were getting for the $1500. Yould require the removal/replacement of some of the components for engineering but ultimately it can be done to due the GTi's standard OEM features and heritage to the Mitsubishi CC Mirage/Lancer/Cyborg chassis.

Cheers for tht lot :)

Tomorrow i am gonna ring the dealer and tell them i want an engineers report done, just for peace of mind more than anything gonna have it on the contract any problems that are identified are to be rectified by them.

yeah i think thats right too they should not be selling a technically illegal car...

+1 for engineers report.
If something happens in the future, you'll shoot yourself for not having got it.
