car getting slower

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

yeh bro, its got 3 wires coming out of it, i thought when one pin grounds on the other it enters daig mode? and then the other pin is for data?

Fairly sure you need 2 pins earthed:

i dont think i have a power wire?

Dont worry about that. I have a logger cable with a plug on the end- and the 3 wires go to those pins highlighted.

Are you sure you have a single board ECU? Have you opened it up to check?

I wired my logger straight into the main harness by the ecu - no problems with clips slipping off the pins, and no need to crawl under the dash to plug the logger in either.

yeh its definately a single board, checked that.
well now my palm isnt even turning on so..
could my luck get any better..

ok so i got the logger working and logging my car.
max knock count was 42  at only 3218 rpm??
what other info should i give that can help you diagnose my problem..
i cant seem to get it on the computer..

That sounds like phantom knock Matt.
If you don't already have one I would get a new knock sensor. And I would then get a chip burnt with the PK code in it so it ignores all knock that happens when the engine is not under a lot of load.
I take it that your ecu has an eprom?

yeh well when the knock was at 42, tps was only 29.6 % but timing was at 18 degrees.
its a brand new meek knock sensor, and yeh my ecu is an eprom one but i spoke to razza and he said he cant chip my ecu?
its mdxxxx810 not 808?

That sounds like a DSM ECU. Any knock is not good. The reason why your car is going slower, is because your ECU is pulling timing because of knock. 1, 2, 3 counts of knock is acceptable, at W.O.T, but anything over 7 i'd be starting to worry. If its not phantom, then you have a serious issue, and your car is pinging hard. Try another knock sensor, and if its not that then i'd revise your setup, starting with the AFM and ECU.

you said your car was running normal and then suddenly it started
being slack

this is just a thought as i have seen this happen on my friends 4g...

but maybe when you installed your timing belt you didnt adjust your
hydraulic tensioner properly, i think the gap between tensioner arm
and tensioner body should be around 4mm, if the gap is bigger then
that, then your timing belt could be a little loose which can cause the
belt to skip one or more teeth on crank or cam pulley, but usually it
happens on crank one and cam timing can either be retarded or over
advanced, depends if it skipped under accel, when starting the engine
or some other circumstances.

so in your case, it maybe skipped a tooth or two and is over advanced
and therefore its pinging and ecu is pulling away timing causing your
car to go crap.

again this is just a thought, maybe its nothing to do with your problem
but to be sure i would just check the cam timing again to eliminate one
of the possibilities.

If you did the timing yourself then check the it hasnt jumped a tooth. I accidently fitted up my exhaust cam one tooth out on my silvia once.. So it was advanced a little.

hurm that could be a possiblity gsr and illuzn, cause it was running so much harder and now it just aint.. i thought these datalogger things just hook up and read in nice big print what the fuck the problem is, haha never that easy..
ill give it a check when i got time..

oh and dre, umm its reading the maf sensor fine on the logger, not sure what values it should be at what rpm but its showing a reading in hertz, under wot it goes up a lot, looks like its pretty normal, but i wouldnt know..
is there any program i can just open my palm up like a file explorer and grab the log files of there?
cheers

ohk, well just had blackvr round here and he checked that it hadnt skipped a tooth on the crank, and yeh it hadnt..
cams were in time and TDC was at the right place.
so i guess timings out of the question..

ok.. Hrmmm.. ok things i would check on my car

Fuel filter
All cooler piping for any leaks or splits.
Intake pipe of leaks
Plugs and plug leads (Gapping if required)
Cat may have collapsed. (Drop cat and drive to test)
Take filter off AFM and test (May be clogged??)
Listen to your engine idle. If you can hear any hissing no matter how little check it out.

it could well be knock sensor has failed out of the blue

If you have done all the above then check them off the list. Maybe next post put up a list of everything you have done thus far..
