That is definitely phantom knock, your ecu will be pulling timing like crazy.
Fix that and you will have your power back.
 
how can i fix something that isnt real, my engine isnt loud at all :? i mean lifter wise..
theres a slight tick but nothing massively loud..
can i unplug the knock sensor from the block and just leave it hanging on the firewall?
see if it drives better then?
and logging it today i definately saw it pull timing, it was at negative 3 on 1 occasion, most times when knock was present it would be around 1 or 2 degrees,
 
yeh im going to go to you pull it tomorrow as blackvr said ts magnas have the same knock sensor, so ill get one of there and hopefully test that..
 
ok well got a ts magna knock sensor, and a cordia turbo knock sensor, same results, crazy knock..
what should i be looking for that would create phantom knock?

nah i havent.. i dont have a spare ecu laing round and im not keen to spend 100 plus on an ecu to maybe have the same problem..

I thought you had 3? Borrow someone's ECU. They're not hard to find- and that will rule the ECU out once and for all.

You either have knock, or you have phantom knock. You should rule out the fact that you have real knock before you go chasing the phantom stuff, assuming all of your brackets bolts and everything is bolted down nicely and you dont have lifter noise.

What are your 02 voltages like on W.O.T? What fuel are you using? Did you get your injectors cleaned before you installed them?

Yep, you've put your timing out of whack when you moved the crank angle sensor so get that sorted (properly by earthing out the diagnostic wire on the firewall and setting it to 5 deg). .

wouldnt mind checking the timing on mine... i spied a wire with a blank plug in it.. is that the one? anyone know what colour the wire is mebbe?
 
hey dre, at WOT, 99.6% tps, 5718 rpm, injector duty 81%%, o2 sensor .72 volts, mafs 685.6 hz

another situation, 6281 rpm, 99.6 tps, 82.8% injector duty, o2 reading .83 volts, 717 hz mafs

um here is something interesting i just found..
4125 rpm, 50.7% tps, knock 42, mafs 981.2 hz !!!! at lower rpm and less throttle then the above two scenarios, its pulling in a fuckload of air, note the above two scenarios showed no knock present at those high rpms'

could it be my maf?

There's only one way to find out! Get another and swap it round!
 
The phantom knock problems on BennyGee's old vr4 were solved when we replaced the front and rear roll stoppers with new ones. How good are your mounts?

With regards to the reduced airflow at high rpm, if swapping the AFM doesn't help, then maybe check to make sure the intake pipe isn't being sucked closed (assuming you are using a rubber one, not a metal one) and that you don't have any air leaks in the system which only suck air in at high rpm. Have you pressure tested the intake?

im going to try a new afm today.. see if that does anything..
worth a try and one more thing i can rule out..

No point in looking for problems with the car as you wont find anything wrong with it! Time to face it man, you're just getting fatter! :lol: :p
